CEPEJ ADVISES AGAINST BURNING LOCAL BOATS LOADED WITH ILLICIT CRUDE OIL, LOCALLY REFINED PETROLEUMS PRODUCTS

URGES BUHARI TO PARTNER WITH CEPEJ FOR LOCAL INDUSTRY COMMISSION TO TRAIN ILLEGAL BUNKERS.

A non governmental organization, Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, (CEPEJ) has strongly advised against destroying and polluting the Niger Delta environment as security operatives arrest, destroy and burn local boats loaded with illicitly refined petroleum products and stolen crude oil in the region.

The national coordinator of CEPEJ, Comrade Mulade Sheriff made this known in Abuja during a press briefing, noting that burning of stolen crude oil boats caught in the illicit act of Bunkering portends grievous dangers to the Ozone layer and thereby destroying Niger Delta Eco system.

The national coordinator of CEPEJ further proposed to partner with the Federal government to proffer solution that will end crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, illicit and environmentally destructive local burning of Crude oil to produce substandard petroleum products.

He noted that, despite militarisation of the Niger Delta to protect and safe guard oil facilities by the Federal government in a bid to stop illegal oil bunkering has resulted in futility as government do not have what it takes  in checking the menace and urged president Mohammadu Buhari, the Minister of Petroleum for state Dr. Ibe Kachuku to consider local industry based integration programme as a social welfare scheme aimed at curbing destructive approach to the application of beneficial knowledge.

He noted that Niger Deltans are no  longer safe under a depleted Ozone layer, poised water, Polluted air and degraded environment as military personnel engage in burning of boats loaded with suspected stolen crude oil has resulted in a terrible mind bugling destructive indices, revealing that  it has been estimated that 9 -13 million barrel, 1.5 million tones of oil has been illegally introduced into the Niger Delta echo system without remediation.

The Environmentalist said; “Federal government need to partner with CEPEJ to adopt an idea  that is beneficial to Nigerians at large, including the condition driven by   local illegal oil explorers. The problems bedeviling the Niger Delta environment is partly borne  out of oil theft, unauthorized diversion of oil by any means for personal gains, use of vessels to transport illegally obtained crude oil which often result in leakage into water bodies. It is pertinent for federal government to know that no amount of military personnel  and gunboats can save Nigeria from loosing over 800, 000 barrel of crude oil per day to pipeline vandalism to service more than 500 Illegal refineries operating in the region”.

Nigeria ceases to exist if Niger Delta breaks away – IYC president

image

By Egbemavoice

President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Barrister Pereotubo Oweilaemi, has said that it is imperative that the Niger Delta region should be given their place in the Nigeria project, noting that any day Niger Delta decides not to be part of Nigeria, there won’t be Nigeria again.

The IYC president’s views followed the marginalisation and the ill treatment by the federal government which only takes the oil wealth out of the region for the development of other states and regions while the regions gloats in poverty, hunger and underdevelopment.

Oweilaemi who spoke to journalists in Warri, said: “We want to be given recognition, we want to be treated well as citizens of the great nation. We expect the president to respect the wishes of the Niger Delta people.

“We expect Buhari to give oil blocks to Niger Delta and Ijaw people. There can’t be oil well in my mother’s backyard and you say I’m not the owner. We are oppressed, we are harassed, we are intimidated in the Niger Delta.”

Though there are two factions of the IYC presidency, Oweilaemi said his election was most expensive, noting that 20 years down the line, this is the first time IYC is having a lawyer as its president.

Answering a question on his next plan after the tenure as IYC president, he said: “I don’t want to tell you where I will be after IYC. However, nobody can stop where I am going. I know where I am going. I will go to another place after IYC.”

He said his greatest challenge is to put Ijaw people together as one, adding that he would want to be remembered for uniting Ijaw people and sustaining peace in the Ijaw bearing communities in the Niger Delta region.

On the social aspect of life, he said he attended primary and secondary school in Torugbene his community where he was social and sanitary prefect.

“I was very neat. I wear only white as you can see in me. Everything about me is white. I don’t get angry with people. When I get to some places that discomfort me but because of my position, I organize myself. I’m always accessible to my people

DESCRIBES 2019 GENERAL ELECTIONS AS BAD EXPERIENCE FOR NIGERIANS

By Egbemavoice

A peace ambassador and human right advocate, Comrade Mulade Sheriff has raised alarm over what he described as a looming uprising and uncontrollable civil disobedience capable of disrupting the relative peace in Nigeria, adding that Nigeria is bleeding and sitting on a keg of gun powder due to bad Leadership and government insensitivity to the hardship pervading majority of its citizens.

The Global Peace Ambassador made the assertion in Lagos while speaking with journalists on the state of the nation and   noted  that there is the urgent need to adopt alternative Leadership pattern to reach the less privileged Nigerians.

He said “Our democracy appears to be in comatose and what  is being practiced today as a political system is a fraud and a conduit pipe that is  impoverishing the generality of people.

Mulade opined further that; “the present system can succinctly be described as the cobra style in leadership and the venom of their poison chalice is poverty as political remuneration as is presently being dispensed only helps to drain the nation’s treasury in their selfish interest and  to the detriment of the generality of our people”.

“Unfortunately our nation has just witnessed some political wars and killings in the name of election in open disregard to fair principle of electing leaders.

Gangsterism has  become the common and most acceptable way to gain democratic power. There are clear manifestations of what can best be described as direct subversion of the known process to peace as we saw glaringly the modest of James Bond type of film acted by politicians, cheating, corrupting democracy and buying themselves into power to dominate the electorate to their own Injury”, he said.

The  Activist  called on Nigerian leaders to correct what he described as leadership dysfunction to avert looming wind of uprising as the nation cannot afford to experience the happenings in DR Congo which today is adjudged the worst country in the world in spite of her huge resources.

According to him also “A  large number of Nigerians decided to maintain the sit down and look postures in the just concluded concluded  general elections as a way of registering their protest. The Country witnessed voters apathy like never before and this culminated into very low turn out of voters. The lowest ever experienced in our democracy. In the midst of all these political abracadabra, contestants who seemingly won elective positions through these charades called elections are celebrating. The pervasiveness is so high and a random sampling of opinion shows that many Nigerians are bleeding in their hearts and like the biblical John the Baptist crying in the wilderness, I am raising a lone voice to admonish our present crop of leaders not to destroy the country in their selfishness and quest for plates of portage.

The Nigerian Youths are Jobless which alone is a serious case in our hands. I see the MIDDLE EAST wind of uprising coming closer, and this can only be averted if we give the Nigerian youths hope and a better life”.

Lamenting further, he kicked against the   wastage as experienced in the conduct of elections which to him is heart breaking.

“It will interest Nigerians to note that in 2011 elections the government spent over 85 billion Naira, while 2015, it was about 150 billion Naira and in 2019 elections, the government is spending a huge amount of over 255 billion Naira to conduct elections for an administration with a span of four years”, he said.

Hear him;“If these amounts are judiciously utilized for national interest it will help fix our roads and crawling power problems. I  think  there should not be need for elections in Nigeria again if what we promote is brazen wastage and without elections we can still dispense governance and remain as one entity”.

“The time has come for us to solve Nigeria problems by adopting a deliberate and pragmatic approach by forming a National coalition government for unity and development drawn from the six geopolitical zones where each zone will run a single term of 5years, in such government, the President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker House of Rep, Chief Judge of the Federation and Secretary of Federation will be drawn from the six geopolitical zones to form the National Coalition Government, while service Chiefs will emerge based on merit and seniority without any interference by executive, legislature or the judiciary. In this wise,  every arm will be independent to deliver on its mandate”, he added.

In his words also “The National Coalition Government will focus on addressing and solving our security, roads, Power, education, water and environmental problems within a short period of 30 years.Nigerian leaders are trading with the future of the generation unborn. Our former presidents, former Vice presidents, former Governors, past and the present crop of political leaders as the major problem of Nigeria”.

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Worldwide under the leadership of Oweilaemi Roland Pereotubo mourn the painful demise of our legendary literary icon, Pa. Gabriel Okara. Our father and hero of modern literary genre was not only a source of inspiration to the retinue of young literary activists in today’s contemporary Nigeria but also, the splendour of his mastery works have over the years, defined literary evolution in the African continent.

Indeed, the Ijaw nation in particular and the Nigerian federation at large have lost an iroko tree of an inestimable value. Though he lives on as his prodigious works will continue to ring his name in the minds of humanity at the sands of times, his demise is one that can never be replaced.

The Ijaw nation hereby joins the people and Government of Bayelsa State to mourn our departed pundit. We pray for the eternal rest of the departed soul. Our prayers are to the immediate family of the literary icon and the Ijaw nation in general. May God Almighty grant us the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

LEADERSHIP OF IYC APPEALS TO THE MANAGEMENT OF NNPC FOR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION IN ONGOING RECRUITMENT EXERCISE

By Egbemavoice

WARRI____The President of Ijaw Youth Council, Barr. Oweilaemi Pereotubo has appealed to the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Kacalla Baru for special  consideration in the employment recruitment for youths of the Niger Delta region, particularly the Ijaws who have sacrificed for the enduring peace in the region.

Speaking to journalists yesterday, the President who commended the giant strides of the GMD and his management team for their relentless efforts at repositioning the corporation which has necessitated recruitment of more workforce, appealed that youths of oil producing communities and areas should be given priority attention considering the environmental pollution, pains and challenges these affected communities are suffering.

Speaking further, Barr. Oweilaemi said IYC is always ready to partner and also help in whichever areas it’s assistance is needed. He revealed to journalists that the relative peace in the Niger Delta is as a result of the collaborative efforts between IYC and other ethnic groups in the Niger Delta that have been engaging various youth groups to emphasize the overwhelming importance of peace.

.OKOWA VICTORY, IT’S IJAW’S TURN TO PRODUCE GOVERNOR DELTA 2023—IYC

By Egbemavoice

President of the Ijaw Youth Council worldwide, Barrister Pereotubo Oweilaemi, on Monday said that for any political party to win the governorship of Delta state in 2023, the party will do well to produce its governorship candidate from the Ijaw ethnic nationality.

image

Barrister Oweilaemi, who is the 7th president of the IYC, a regional youth group which has been in existence for the past 20 years, said no political party will sail through in 2023 if it fails to produce its governorship candidate from the Ijaw ethnic nationality in the oil rich Delta state.

The IYC president, who spoke when he received some journalists in Warri , further said the issue of zoning which has been the strength of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since 1999 has come to an end, inisisting that from 2023, the singsong in Delta will be ethnic nationality and not the zoning system which has been operational over the years.

If his argument has anything to go by, the pledge of the state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, to relinquish state power to the Urhobos of Delta central, a zone which is already gearing for the coveted seat, may be heading for a head-on-collision with the Ijaws.

Prior to the 2019 governorship campaigns and even during the campaigns, Governor Okowa of Delta state had said he would hand over state power to the Urhobo of Central if he is supported to win the 2019 general elections.

The 2019 elections was one of the biggest nightmares of the state governor following the threat and intimidation form the national leadership of the All Progressive Congress and most especially the national chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

Following the threat, Governor Okowa appealed to the Urhobos to vote for him, adding that he would ensure the Urhobos of Delta central produce the governorship in 2023.

But the IYC president is saying it is the turn of the Ijaws to produce the 2023 governor of the state, arguing that the need for the Ijaws to produce the governor was why they resisted the cabals who wanted to oust Okowa from office in the just concluded general elections.

“This is because we believe that it is when Okowa is given opportunity to complete his term that Ijaw man can be governor in 2023. We are working and putting structures in place to ensure we produce the governor in 2023. This time it is ethnic nationality.

“We expect the sitting governor to support that Ijaw project because ijaw people supported him. Change is the only constant thing in life.

“The senatorial district arrangement is over. We are not people you can easily push away. Whether you call it North, central or South, that is now history. We have successfully completed that arrangement.

“The next round should be based on ethnic nationality and the ijaw nation is very much interested in producing the governor of Delta state.”

Prior to the elections, Sheriff Mulade, an Ijaw man had earlier said it will be Ijaw turn to produce the Delta state governor in the year 2023.

He said the Ijaws are warming up for that, adding that it is their legitimate turn as the zoning formula in the state will favour the Ijaws who are the fourth largest ethnic group in Nigeria and second most largest ethnic group in the state.

He appealed to all political stakeholders in the state to respect and work for Ijaw in 2023 adding that Ijaw people will not tolerate any form of political miscalculation, gimmick and blankets promise to seek their votes for personal political interest

PRESIDENT SPEECHES

Distinguished  Ladies and gentlemen,
THE Vice president
THE General secretary,
The patron and matron.
The Advisers,
The Executive members.

I  sincerely welcome everyone to this first General meeting of the year,  tagged “Delta 2019”
I apologize for the delay of the first General meeting in this year, due to the 2019 General election postponment, I welcome you back from the  general elections.

image

Ladies and gentlemen, this is new year with new ambition, my brief speech is to Encourage  all sons and daughters of Ajakuramites that spend there precious time for  Ajakuramavoice General meeting. Ajakuramavoice is a community of interest, or interest-based community, is a community of people who share a common interest or passion. These people exchange ideas and thoughts about the given passion, but may know (or care) little about each other outside this area. Participation in  Ajakuramavoice community of interest can be compelling, entertaining and create a Ajakuramavoice where people return frequently and remain for extended periods. Frequently, they cannot be easily defined by a particular geographical area of meet ,

image

In other words, “a Ajakuramavoice community of interest is a gathering of people assembled around a topic of common interest. Its members take part in the community to exchange information, to obtain answers to personal questions or problems of the community , to improve their understanding of a subject, to share common passions of Ajakuramites. In contrast to Ajakuramavoice  spatial community community of interest’ is defined not by space, but by some common bond feeling of attachment or entity, clubs, church, association, group and rituals together.

“Ajakuramavoice online community of based interested connection, is a social cultural organization platforms that setup by this body, such as facebook, Telegram and whatsapp platforms that enable the community of interest often times intractable,  they develop out of interests in a particular topics, dissemination of information, renderiing assistance to each others, deliberating some pressing issues and easy  access for  communication within the community. It benefit Ajakuramavoice online community of interest ,over place-based communities is that of non-physical access to group involvement, It encourages good relationship, less expensive to interact, quick access to the stranded indigenes ,It updates individuals outside the community. And  enhances fast employment for the job seekers.

image

We’ve successfully achieved our two initial goals of publishing open data about the Ajakuramavoice aims and objectives  in various  area and demonstrating that in our various publication, there were an engagement of meetings, in  local community, capable of working with that data. But in order to take the project forward to achieve some of our long term goals and ensure some stability, we needed to formalise what we’ve been doing.

Ajakuramavoice, social cultural organization that  advocating and finding immediate solutions to the youth restiveness  and unemployment in Egbema kingdom. The words ‘youth’ and ‘restiveness’ have become so commonly used together in the last couple of years that it seems to have taken on a life of its own. In the last decade and more there has been a proliferation of cases all over the country and indeed the world, of youth agitations which have tons of people dead and valuable infrastructure as well as personal properties lost and destroyed.

It is a phenomenon which in practice by all class of Nigerians both richest and poor, has led to a near breakdown of law and order, low productivity due to disruption of production activities, increasing crime rate, intra-ethnic hostilities, and harassment of prospective developers and other criminal tendencies.

In Nigeria for instance, our Niger Delta region especially our Egbema kingdom which is unarguably, the bedrock of the oil industry in Nigeria for a lengthy period of time as the youths of Egbema tried various means of getting government and oil companies to pay attention to our dire conditions of living and alleviate our sufferings since inception of oil companies and 21st century democracy , the resources which is building the nation is flowing from our land so by virtue of that we  should also be partakers of the benefits all abortive.

The Unemployment and abandonment of Edo and Delta states government  to Ajakurama town, the traditional headquarter of Egbema kingdom increases youths restiveness in Egbema kingdom, today many are in prison and others in grave, This strife led to a rise in kidnapping and vandalization of oil pipelines as well as other vices that were being perpetrated. After a period of  Years, the Nigerian government intervened and the Amnesty program was created to help deliver some of the promises which government had made to the youths in our areas.

image

Agitation in Niger Delta is becoming of business of the day, whereby the frontier of the struggle continues enrich themselves and abandoned the main community of interest. The baton of agitation was handed over to the Criminal Minds set of thugs . Increase in the rate of armed robbery attacks, kidnappings as well as unbridled thuggery became the order of the day. This led the untimely death of youths , massacre of communities in the region.

Dein of Agbor Set agenda for Okowa’s second Term

Dein of Agbor Set agenda for Okowa’s second Term

By EV reporter

Dein of Agbor Kingdom in Delta State, His Royal Majesty, Ikenchuku Keagborekuzi the first, has set agenda for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s second term even as he vowed to continue to defend equity and fairness always.

The monarch who was speaking at his palace during an interactive session with the members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Indigenous Correspondence Chapel, Delta State Council advised governor Okowa to use his second term to make Nigerians know him more and institutionalised his  name.

He urged governor Okowa to set aside party politics saying human live is supreme and not party politics because party come and go.

Speaking on national unity, the traditional ruler said: “i believe in equity and fairness and i don’t struggle for anything with my brothers. I won’t quarrel with other monarchs because they are Kingdom like mine. We have so many people in Nigeria who believe in a peaceful nation, we also have many who believe in war as well but we must go for peace, what affect any communities affect another.

The monarch expressed gratitude to Nigerians for a successful poll noting that it is a collective efforts that make for a prosperous nation.

“Traditional institutions are very sensitive. I am a lover of law – as monarchs we must be respected in the country because  we were the first the British met on ground before government was created. Government derived their legitimacy from the people.

“Agbor does not take staff of office from government who just came in and want to crown how possible? We must respect the monarchs. Canada is becoming the best country in the world because they recruit the best brains in the world. We have roles as monarchs, my father was a Minister and Olu of Ife was a Governor in this country and things were good then.”

He appealed to Nigerians to live with one another irrespective of the North and South divide maintaining that contrary idea does not make another an enemy.

While noting that politics is about bringing out the best ideas for the people to move forward he insisted that Nigerians needs one another.

He stressed the importance of change in any society or tradition, adding that any tradition that refuse to change will fade away. “If the world can create weapons of mass destruction they can also create food that can cater for the masses. If your religion is causing you to kill it is not of God. Monarchy is a fatherhood and i must be sensitive to the needs of my people.”

Workers want GM removed
want old Board dessolved

By Celestine Ukah Egbemavoice

Delta Broadcasting Service, Warri, owned by Delta State Government may be shut down in the next one week over issues bothering on outdated or non-availability of relevant technical equipment as well as appalling staff welfare condition our correspondent  can authoritatively report.

A document obtained exclusively by your Soaring International Tabloid revealed that basic protective equipment such as Thunder Arrestor, is not in the state owned electronic media house as the rainy season approaches and air conditioners are not functional in “various offices”.

The document which was signed by leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Sonia Unobunjo as well as Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union, RATTAWU Chaurman, Comrade Isaac Oboh of the station, further exposed the lack of operational vehicles, non-deployment of security personnel to the station’s premises, thus endangering the lives of staff to hoodlums and protesters as well as the nonpayment of the medical claims to workers.

The union continued by saying  that only one month imprest (daily running cost) was paid in 2018, while work on the irritating audio signal output of the FM arm of the station was yet to be completed as at the time of this report.

The two unions have resolved to invite staff in charge of revenue generation and expenditure of the media house to reveal financial details as they gear up “to respect the wishes of staff to resume the suspended work-to-rule action” over their ten-point demands, which also include the non-payment of stipends for services rendered during public holidays.

Workers have also raised concern about the DBS Warri  broken down vehicles, noting that the GM and other may allow it look rotten and request for auction which he the GM will buy sheap as he was said to have bought one of the vehicle five thousand naira and repaired it and put it into use driving same to DBS.

The union further posited that Workers from 14 to 16 doesn’t get any impress to run their offices as well as other incentives.

COLAPSE BUILDING TRENDS IN NIGERIA: UN GLOBAL AMBASSADOR, MULADE URGES DELTA GOVERNMENT TO BE PROACTIVE

COLAPSE BUILDING TRENDS IN NIGERIA: UN GLOBAL AMBASSADOR, MULADE URGES DELTA GOVERNMENT TO BE PROACTIVE

By Egbemavoice online news.

Niger Delta based International Human Rights, Peace advocate/ Environmentalist,  Comrade Amb. Sheriff Mulade has raised concerns over the recent reports of building collapse trending across some States in Nigeria, describing the development as unfortunate and lack of various states government incongruous attitude towards peoples lives and safety.

image

Comrade Mulade who is the National Coordinator Centre For Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ was also recently in USA decorated as United Nation  Global Peace Ambassador, while condemning the ugly development of rising building collapse in the country urged the Delta state governments under the leadership of the Governor reelect Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to as a matter of urgency, to direct his Works and Commissioners in charge of housing and construction to make sure they take proactive measures in order to avert record of collapse buildings in the state.

He however advised  Delta state governments to setup committee and mandate  ministries responsible to go out round the state inspecting and identifying defected structures and map it for demolition so as to avert major casualties of lost of lives and property as well as pollution of the environment.

Comrade Amb. Mulade said there are already existing dilapidated buildings around Warri and its environs which ought to be demolished by government but uptil date nobody is showing concern and the lives and safety of those occupying it.

He admonished the government to care more about providing  the people with adequate shelter and make sure buildings and other projects are handled by certified professionals across Delta State.

He commeserated with families if those who lost loved their children  in the collapsed structures in Lagos and Ibadan, Oyo States and prayed God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss.

URGES INEC TO  SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY AND DEAL DECISIVELY WITH OFFENDERS

By Egbemavoice.blogspot.com

A Global Peace Ambassador and human rights advocate Comrade Mulade Sheriff has expressed total disappointment over the just concluded general elections in Nigeria.

image

The peace advocate who expressed worry while speaking with journalists in New York City, USA, said it is highly regrettable to observe the way and manner public office holders displayed their desperate attitude, intimidated, harassed INEC Returning Officers and forcefully ordered that they declared them winners or pay with their lives, describing it as a national and international embarrassment.

Speaking further, he said; “ the success of any election depends on efficient conduct, which includes accreditation, voting, counting, collation and results declaration, saying, Collation and declaration of results are critical stages in the election process”.

“It is important to state that failure to complete the collation and transmission of results in a quick, transparent and accurate manner can jeopardize public confidence and the credibility of the elections, as it will most likely affect candidates and political parties perception of the final results.

In the just concluded elections, situation have arisen where the integrity of a well-run electoral process is severely compromised as experienced during collation and declaration of results”.

“A number of polling centers had returning officers declared results under duress and some party candidates emerged as winners.
It is no longer news that a returning officer was held hostage from 7pm on a Sunday till 11am on a Monday and had to announce the result to save his life.

However, the said election should have been inconclusive due to election frauds in eight local government areas”, the Activist added.

According to him; the declaration of results in some polling units, wards and states collation centre were characterized by party candidates using threats  and forcing returning officers to announce them as winners with the highest votes. These candidates are acting from advantageous position of their party and the power they wield in their states, while neglecting the proviso in INEC’s guidelines, which states in Sections 26 and 153 of the Electoral Act, “a by-election is required when the margin of victory between highest and second highest votes scorers in an election is less than the total number of cancelled votes”.

” For the first time in the annals of our political history, we witnessed INEC officials under serious pressure to declare results negating due process. Sad to state that Politicians are craftily exploiting a section of the electoral law that prohibits INEC from reversing itself after pronouncements as only the court has the power to reverse any pronouncement by the body (INEC).
According to him, “how do we explain or trust the system when the umpires of our democratic process take advantage of the laws guiding it to obliterate and acutely create crisis and conflicts which are avoidable? They short change the system, create room for court cases emanating from disagreements in the way INEC as a body conducted the elections.
Poorly officiated elections gives room for litigation with tax payers money as the body (INEC ) will be joined in all the litigations.

“Let me state that Nigerians will be happy if the process is neat as there will be little or no litigation when there is credible transparent and free elections.
It is quite disturbing for officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission to declare a candidate of a party, winner in a senatorial election, in apparent disregard to its own guidelines.
Of special reference is, Mr Uzor Kalu, a former governor of Abia State and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was declared the winner of Abia North Senatorial District election conducted on February 23, 2019.
According to Charles Anumudu, the INEC returning officer for the district, Mr Kalu polled 31,201 votes while the incumbent senator, Mao Ohuabunwa trailed Mr Kalu with 20,801 votes in the election, while 38,526 votes were cancelled during the exercise, this number is significantly greater than the margin of 10,400 between both contestants, was this declaration truly our electoral practice or we are deceiving ourselves”? He queried.

“The ordinary man on our street knows that in the above scenario such election should have been better declared inconclusive,  and the people would have been happier to have a re-run in the district. Declaring a candidate winner when a large proportion of votes were cancelled would lead to the disruption of the rule of law and it is our duty as well as that of all well meaning individuals and civil society organizations to speak up against this act of result declaration under duress or without due process.

The Center for Peace and Environmental Justice through this medium is urging the Independent National Electoral Commission to save our democracy by being the umpire that it was created to be, maintain justice and fair play amongst the electorate”, he said.

Reelected Governor of Delta State and Governor of the year 2018,  Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has again assured the good people of the three senatorial districts in the state of his administration’s total commitment to the new vision of a Stronger Delta.

The Smart Governor in a post reelection State Broadcast noted that the success of his administration is hinged on the enormous support from Deltans and partners who strongly believe in his leadership ability and political willpower to transform the state within a reasonable period, a journey which began on May 29, 2015.

Looking back, the governor said the state has moved on from the era of stagnancy, and now in a better shape in terms of result oriented socioeconomic transformation, infrastructure and human capital  development which invariably attracted numerous local, national and international Awards for him and the state in general, adding that it takes watertight synergy between government and the governed to achieve so much within a short period of three years and nine months.

He thanked the people for believing in his leadership skills and integrity built over the years and humbly  dedicated his reelection landslide victory to God and the good people of Delta State.

Gov Okowa further assured that his administration shall sustain open door policy, transparency, accountability and prudent management of financial resources towards “Better Days Ahead” in a “Stronger Delta State” where jobs and wealth creation truly translates to genuine  and sustainable prosperity for all Deltans.

Full text of Gov Okowa’s state broadcast below:

STATE BROADCAST BY HIS EXCELLENCY, SENATOR, DR IFEANYI OKOWA, THE GOVERNOR OF DELTA STATE, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RE-ELECTION FOR ANOTHER FOUR-YEAR TERM

Fellow Deltans,

At about 12 noon on Monday, March 11, 2019, I was officially declared winner of the March 9, 2019 Governorship election in Delta State by the Independent National Electoral Commission. With over 81% of the total valid votes cast and having won in 23 out of the 25 Local Government Areas in the State, my renewed four-year mandate is as resounding as it is unprecedented in our beloved State. But most importantly, it is very humbling and comes with an even weightier responsibility.

2. First, I enjoin all Deltans to thank God for what was largely a peaceful and hitch free election except for one or two skirmishes that were quickly brought under control. Admittedly, there was palpable tension and apprehension in the days leading up to the election, instigated by the unguarded utterances of a few desperate politicians who threatened to make the election a do-or-die affair.

3. However, we put our trust in God who “frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot carry out their plans.” And to God be the glory, peace reigned during the election and the will of God prevailed.

4. Let me also commend the Independent National Electoral Commission and the law enforcement agencies for standing firm and resolute to deliver a free, fair and credible election. This is the pathway to sustainable democracy in Nigeria.

5. I dedicate this victory to you, the good people of Delta State. You are the true winners in this election. You are the true winners for standing firm and unyielding in your support of my administration. You are the true winners for refusing to succumb to threats and intimidation. You are the true winners for not allowing yourselves to be blackmailed or manipulated by lies, deceit and propaganda.

6. The mandate you have given me is very comforting, reassuring and liberating. It is a massive vote of confidence in the work we have done together in the last three years and nine months. While I may not need to catalogue our achievements here, there is no gainsaying the fact that under my leadership Delta State has witnessed huge developmental strides in road and physical infrastructure, health, education, rural-urban integration, human capital development and sports. These have been attested to by the multiple awards from various organisations in the last one year.

7. This renewed mandate is also a vote for unity. I won in all three senatorial districts with overwhelming majority, a clear indication that Deltans have recognised the oneness in us, as well as our shared values and aspirations. You voted decisively to reward excellence, hard work and performance.

8. I am a very proud Deltan today. And so should you all be. Indeed, there is more that binds us together than divides us. I trust that we shall all continue in this spirit of trust, brotherliness and mutual understanding.

9. Finally, it goes without saying that this victory is a motivation for me to do more. Much more. In due course I shall unfold our roadmap for a Stronger Delta anchored on the three pillars of prosperity, peace and progress. One thing I assure today is that we shall raise the bar of good governance even higher in my second tenure. I am resolved to leave a legacy of a Delta State that will be the pacesetter in the federation.

10. I solicit your cooperation to make this a reality. Elections come and go but our State remains, and belongs to all of us. By divine guidance, we are building a State where equity, justice, peace and progress reign supreme; a State that we can all be proud of.

11. It is, therefore, time we reconcile, forget the things of the past, and contribute our individual quota to the development of the State, irrespective of our political inclinations. I urge us all to strive to strengthen the ties that bind us together as we eagerly look forward to a Stronger Delta. Expect better days ahead.

12. Thank you for your time and attention.

13. God bless Delta State.

GOVERNORSHIP POLL: MILITARIZATION OF NIGER DELTA, A CALL FOR ANARCHY- GBARAMATU SPOKESMAN, GBENEKAMA REVEALS

MARCH 9: MILITARIZATION OF NIGER DELTA, A CALL FOR ANARCHY- GBARAMATU SPOKESMAN, GBENEKAMA REVEALS

SAYS  DELTA CENTRAL MUST RESPECT ZONING ARRANGEMENT OR FORGET 2023
Egbemavoice.blogspot.com

As Saturday March 9 Governorship and Houses of Assembly elections approaches the Fiyewei (Spokesman) of the Great Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, Chief Godspower GBENEKAMA JP has revealed that militarization of Niger Delta because of the polls is a call for anarchy against the people of the region.

Chief Gbenekama made the revealation known in Warri, Delta State, he also expressed dismay over the call of military to take over the water ways by APC National Chairman and other  chieftains of the party in order to disenfranchise people of the area especially Gbaramatu indigenes and other Riverine communities from exercising their voting rights.

According to him “I have come across both in the print and electronic media, the plan by the ruling party(APC) in the state to influence the party hierarchy at the federal level to send military personnel to the delta state, to ensure that the APC wins the state by all means.I have also read in the news that the President have been making statements as to the need of  taking over Delta state by all means. As for the vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, he said Delta state can not remain in opposition. These statement have been corroborated by the Chairman of the APC Comrade Adams Oshomole, knowing the character of Oshomole am not suprised but the worrisome part in all these is the actions of the President, when he held security meeting with  security chiefs and directed the security chiefs to focus on sending  military personnel to the Niger Delta and to ensure that the men are sent to the region during the Gubernatorial Elections More worrisome is the unguided speech by a  youth during the recent town hall meeting held in Effurun, where he called on the  President to send security men to some riverine local governments areas in Delta state”.

The Gbaramatu Traditional Council Spokesman reiterated that the entire  Gbaramatu Kingdom and its neighbours have been in peace even before and after the Presidential and National Assembly elections, noting that fallacious opinion from some APC members subjecting Bomadi, Burutu and Warri South-West LGAs as area where militants assist PDP to rig elections as facetious lies, he wondered why people are so much in love with crisis, adding that they  will refuse crisis in all its ramifications in the Niger Delta no matter who wants to gain from it. “we are at peace here, the heavy presence of the military as demanded by the APC would not bring any peace but confusion and rancour. what is the wisdom in sending military to a peaceful area when Nigeria has its hands full already with fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram killing people at will, the military and  our President Muhammadu Buhari should direct their energy at those places and restore peace and order that part of the country, that is why he has the legitimacy to preside over the crude oil and gas that is found in my father’s backyard”.

Chief Gbenekama further disclosed that since 2015 when the present administration of APC led federal government came into power, the Niger Delta and  particularly Gbaramatu kingdom have been over militarised, within every two three kilometres, there is a military houseboat all over Warri South-West local government area In Gbaramatu especially every three kilometres, there would be a pair of houseboat, one for the Navy another for the Army across the length and breadth of the kingdom, adding that anyone requesting that more military men be sent to our communities does not wish them  well as the APC have by their actions, “It means, there is a grand design to oppress, subdue and subjugate our people”.

He as well appealed to Delta central to try and be their brothers keeper by adhering to the unwritten understanding  in Delta state where Governors are rotated arround the three Senatorial zones which the last two came from Delta central and Delta south respectively, An Urhobo man Chief James Ibori from Delta central and an Itsekiri man, Dr.Emmanuel Udughaghan from Delta south all served their two tenures  eight years each as allowed by the Nigerian constitution, he noted that Ijaws are one of the largest ethnic nationalities in the state are patiently waiting for their turn,so are the Isokos of Delta south, he urged Urhobos to support Governor Okowa to complete his second tenure if not they should forget 2023 he assured Dr. Okowa of Gbaramatu votes again to continue till 2023.

Chief Gbenekama JP pointed out that the Pere of the Great Gbaramatu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oboro Gbaraun 11Aketekpe, Agadegba has directed his subjects to ensure that they peace law and order so as not to give the security agencies the avenue to maltreat them, urging them to mobilize to their various communities to cast their ballot peacefully and make it count without violence, The Great Gbaramatu Monarch warned criminal elements to stay clear from the Kingdom and its environs.

DELTA GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION: APC, OSHIOMOLE, OGBORU AND UDUAGHAN’S  CONSPIRACY AGAINST GOV OKOWA SHALL CRASH LIKE A PACK OF CARDS.

…EX-MILITANTS TO POSE AS SOLDIERS ON ELECTION DAY EXPOSED.

By Fred Oghenesivbe Esq.

Immediate past Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan,  before defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) swore to achieve two major ambition in 2019; first is to win the Delta South Senatorial election which he lost to Senator James Manager of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Secondly, Uduaghan took an oath to join forces with APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole, to wrestle state power from incumbent Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa; a desire which rest in the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) of registered eligible voters in Delta State.

These ambitions of his, has been taken too far as we have it on good account that a large number of ex-militants have been recruited from different locations across the state with the intention of intimidating eligible voters, harass pepple and disrupt the Governorship and House of Assembly elections slated for Saturday 9th March, 2019.

It follows that the APC as recommended by Uduaghan, Ogboru and Oshiomole, resolved to wrestle state power from the PDP and Gov Okowa, through the use of force, intimidation, harassment and federal might against the will of the people of Delta State.

Available evidence is to the effect that some ex-militants in the state have undergone intensive training and properly briefed on steps to be taken to ensure that no stone is left unturned to guarantee APC and Ogboru’s victory next Saturday.

The implication of the aforesaid is that Delta state may become a war zone wherein insecurity may be artificially created through the anti democratic roles assigned to the ex-militants.

Deltans have been informed to vote and to protect their votes on Saturday.

APC and its election rigging cabal should know that Deltans are peace loving people; therefore its absolutely a disservice to Deltans for APC to want to take state powers in the State by using our youths to implement their election rigging unlawful agenda.

Gov OKOWA is certainly the choice of Deltans, therefore APC should allow peace to reign in the state during next Saturday’s elections.

Its OKOWA all the way for a Stronger Deltan.

SPEECH OF THE SON OF THE STRUGGLE

2019: COMR. OZOBO AUSTIN UNVEILED HIS MANIFESTOS.

MY PLANS FOR GREATER BURUTU, BUILDING AN EGALITARIAN SOCEITY , WHERE WEALTH AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY WILL BE UPHELD

Permit me to begin by saying a big thanks to all of you for believing in my dream for a new Burutu, building an egalitarian society ,a place where equal opportunity and wealth will be distributed without discrimination.

We are into this journey for a reason. It’s humbling, but in my heart I know you didn’t just cheer or share my dream, you are supporting me because you believe in what I can do to change things in Burutu LGA. In the face of suffering, you believed there can be a better Burutu. In the face of despair, you believe there can be hope. In the face of a politics that shut you out, which unsettled, and divided us for a long while, you believe we can still change things for the better. In the face of denial, a situation where your representative said he does not know you after you have voted him into power, you believe God can still send a messiah to provide a good leadership. That’s the journey we’re embarking on today.

As most of you know, I am a frontline Niger Delta activist, a journalist, writer and a public advocate. I am a selfless young man, who has passion for Ijaw nation and Burutu inclusive. I have fought many battles ,with victories. Am a freeborn of Burutu ,precisely from Ayakoromo town. Am the current national president of Ijaw People’s Development Initiative, IPDI. The only formidable Ijaw pressure group in Niger Delta region.  I took the centre stage among other voices advocating against military bombardment of Gbaramatu kingdom, Ayakoromo and other communities in the recent times, and what about the undue intimidation of our Niger Delta hero, GOC, aka Tompolo, what about the oppression of our people in Edo state?. We fought among with others for the final establishment of Nigeria Maritime University ,Kurrutie. What about undue claims of ownership of Ogbe-Ijoh Warri lands by our neighbours , we stood and tackle our brothers to the last point. Burutu LGA was not included in Delta state budget in 2016 and 2017, untill I protested. The few Delta state government projects in Burutu such as Ayakoromo bridge, Burutu, Ogulagha and Sokobulou roads were abandoned. I organized other Burutu youths and we  protested to rejuvenate the abandoned Ayakoromo bridge, Burutu, Ogulagha and Sokobulou township roads, and many others too numerous to mention. And I have not betrayed, despite the acute neglect I faced, I still kept my integrity.

Today I am running another selfless race, it is not about me but it has to do with our political freedom.  Burutu belongs to all of us, we will not allow it to be mortgaged by a few. We have no home than Burutu, therefore we must make it a better dwelling place. I perceived political hegemony, I perceived poverty, I perceived lack of opportunities and wealth distribution in Burutu. We play politics of acrimony and hatred. How did we get to this point?. It is however not too late, we can get it right, if only we are ready.

I stand before you today to announce my candidacy for Delta state house of Assembly for Burutu North. I am contesting under the Nigerian People’s Congress, NPC. Before now I have contested same office under the umbrella of PDP. I recognize there is a certain presumptuousness – a certain audacity – to this announcement. The election ahead of us, I mean 2019 elections, is beyond party. It has to do with personality. People are tired of voting for a party. And I know that is a good decision. I know I have spent a lot of time learning the ways of Burutu politics. I’ve been there long enough to know that the ways of Burutu must change. Though the office or position am aspiring for is strictly lawmaking and not executive office but I will exercise my oversight functions such as lobbying to influence meaningful capital projects to my primary constituency through Delta state government ,its parastatals and federal agencies.

The genius of our founders is that they designed a system of government where equal opportunity will be upheld.
Today we are called once more – and it is time for our generation to answer that call. For that is our unyielding faith – that in the face of impossible odds, people who love their people can change it.

That’s what Abraham Lincoln understood. He had his doubts. He had his defeats. He had his setbacks. But through his will and his words, he moved a nation and helped free a people. It is because men and women of every race, from every walk of life, continued to march for freedom long after Lincoln was laid to rest, that today we have the chance to face the challenges of this millennium together, as one people.

The current political system in our LGA has been bastardised by our privileged brothers. Our youths have been made to believe that education is no longer valued and that the shortcut to make it in life is by involving in one crime or the other. Our youths do not know what cultism is in time past but today they see cultism and ritual activities as normal life, beause idleness is the order of the day. And survival by the fittest has pushed us to where we are today. A situation where stack illitrates are been celebrated by educated people because of money, as they see that as the only means of survival. It is a pity that stack illiterates who went and buy results or forge results are always been imposed to lead others who suffered to go to school. This is a sign that education has no place in Burutu LGA any longer. They threatens our future, schools where too many children aren’t learning, and families struggling, despite working as hard as they can. We know the challenges. We’ve heard them. We’ve talked about them for years.

What’s stopped us from meeting these challenges is not the absence of sound policies and sensible plans. What’s stopped us is the failure of leadership, our preference for scoring cheap political points instead of rolling up our sleeves and building a working consensus to tackle big problems is another bottle neck. We’re distracted from our real failures by petty and trivial things.

We’ve been made to believe in one party system by few group of persons. We have been told to hate our brothers in other parties. Instead of ruling people inclusively despite their political, religious, economic and family backgrounds. We run party government, we run family government. Instead of developing everybody randomly, we only develop members of our parties and our friends and families despite the money belongs to all of us. Selective governance and imposition of wrong people in political positions are the bane of underdevelopment in Burutu LGA. We have been made to be comfortable with a life of a beggar. They operated on a philosophy ,where it adduced that the more poorer your followers the more they become loyal. They think they own Burutu LGA , but we’re here today to take it back.It belongs to all of us. The time for that politics is over. It’s time to turn the page. We’ve made some progress already.

But Burutu has a long way to go. And it won’t be easy. That’s why we’ll have to set priorities. We’ll have to make hard choices. And although government will play a crucial role in bringing about the changes we need. We need selfless people to drive the process. Each of us, in our own lives, will have to accept responsibility – for instilling an ethic of achievement in our children, for adapting to a more competitive governance , for strengthening our communities, and sharing some measure of sacrifice. So let us begin. Let us begin this hard work together. Let us transform Burutu to where it will attract investors, tourists and other visitors.

I implore you, let us be the generation that reshapes our values to compete in the digital age. Let’s set high standards for our schools and give them the resources they need to succeed. Let’s recruit a new army of teachers, and give them better pay and more support in exchange for more accountability. Let’s make college more affordable, and let’s invest in scientific research.

Let’s be the generation that ends poverty in Burutu, every single person willing to work should be able to get job training that leads to a job, and earn a living wage that can pay his bills, and afford child care so their kids have a safe place to go when they work. Let’s do this. Let’s be the generation that finally tackles our health care crisis. We can control costs by focusing on prevention, by providing better treatment to the chronically ill.  Let’s be the generation that provides standard health care in Burutu by the end of the next 8years. Let’s be the generation that finally frees Burutu from the tyranny of oil. Over dependence of oil has limit us from seeking knowledge and skills. Let’s be the generation that makes future generations proud of what we will do here. Politics doesn’t have to divide us on this anymore – we can work together to keep Burutu safe.

I know there are those who don’t believe we can do all these things. I understand the skepticism. After all, every four years, candidates from all parties make similar promises, and I expect this year will be no different. All of us running for Delta state house of Assembly, DTHA, and other elective positions will travel around the LGA offering our plans and making grand speeches; all of us will trumpet those qualities we believe make us uniquely qualified to lead the country. But too many times, after the election is over, and the confetti is swept away, all those promises fade from memory, and the lobbyists and the special interests move in, and people turn away, disappointed as before, left to struggle on their own.

That is why this campaign can’t only be about me. It must be about us – it must be about what we can do together. This campaign must be the occasion, the vehicle, of your hopes, and your dreams. It will take your time, your energy, and your advice – to push us forward when we’re doing right, and to let us know when we’re not. This campaign has to be about reclaiming the meaning of true democracy , restoring our sense of common purpose, and realizing the few obstacles which can withstand the power of millions of voices calling for change.

There is a saying that divided, we are bound to fail, but united we can succeed.
As believers , I tell you that a different future in Burutu is possible. I tell you that there is power in words. I tell you that there is power in conviction. That beneath all the differences of race and region, faith and station, we are one people. I tell you that there is power in hope.

As Lincoln organized the forces arrayed against slavery, he was heard to say: “Of strange, discordant, and even hostile elements, we gathered from the four winds, and formed and fought to battle through.” That is our purpose here today. That’s why I’m in this race.

Not just to hold an office, but to join forces with you to transform Burutu. I want to win this battle – for justice and opportunity. I want to win this battle – for better schools, and better jobs, and health care for all. I want us to take up the unfinished business of perfecting a change, and building a better Burutu. And if you will join me in this improbable quest, if you feel destiny calling, and see as I see, a future of endless possibility stretching before us; if you sense, as I sense, that the time is now to shake off our slumber, and slough off our fear, and make good on the debt we owe past and future generations, then I’m ready to take up the cause, and march with you, and work with you.

Together, starting from today, let us finish the work that needs to be done, and usher in a new birth of freedom in the lives of Burutu people.

Thanks and Godbless.

CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA HAVE FINALLY SIGNED THE CURRENCY SWAP DEAL

CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA HAVE FINALLY SIGNED THE CURRENCY SWAP DEAL

IT’S WORTH READING…

IN CASE YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND.

By egbemavoice

I know Most of You don’t know the meaning of Nigeria dollars, yuan swap with China.. And why American government is desperately smoothing the relationship with Nigeria.

Soon you will be buying that techno phone you bought at N80,000 for N12,000.

The Central Bank of Nigeria have finally signed the currency swap deal we have been expecting for the past 2 years into existence with the Chinese government.

The importance of this is that since almost 70% of the goods we import come from China and Asia and 12% America why must we use Dollars to transact with China? from now instead of using dollars at N350 to 1dollar to import those goods, we can now buy Yuan at 47 naira to 1 Yuan and import those stuffs directly.

Instead of buying these goods in dollars in China, we will now buy them in Yuan which is 5times cheaper than dollars.

As usual, another giant stride which Print Media, Electronic Media and Nigerian looters will not report or allow you to understand this victory over supremacy of dollars in our daily lives and economic activities.

Up coming reality is that from tomorrow, try to monitor exchange rate. Some of those guys who hoarded foreign currencies to make gains will off load them in order not to have heart attack over their huge loss arising from the currency swap deal with china.
Dollars and pounds will flood everywhere with no buyers, as the buyers will draw naira from their accounts in banks with presence in China.

Many NIGERIAN banks will be seeking to have their representative office in China  like first bank  saw to the future and already have office in China.
Inflation will go down drastically because of the price of commodities that will drop.

SHARE AND ENLIGHTEN OUR PEOPLE, THIS IS A WELCOME DEVELOPMENT

By Egbemavoice

It is my great pleasure to see this wonderful day of another 365 days in my life.  It would be recall that’ life is so precious to every one and hope with out love is useless and love without hope is also useless.

A society can not function with out a genuine human beings. How can we achieve a good society?
(1) By accessing the character of people that want to led us .
(2) By eliminating religious fundamentalists, tribalism and sentimentalists.
(3) Allowing human being with good leadership skills, quality and integrity to lead the society.
(4) open door policy to accommodate all indigenes with out discrimination, Prejudice and stereotyping one another.
(5) Provide enabling environments for all participants to exercise their God given talents with out any barriers  and conditionalities.
(6) understanding the principle of general will.
(7) Giving equal opportunities to all citizens in economy diplomacy and distributive justice, irrespective of tribes, religion, political affiliations, and beliefs system.
(8) My advice to all Christian’s, Muslims and Traditional believers that’ we all need to build a country, we can call home.
Let us look at our similarities in worship. Christian pray, Muslim pray and Traditional believers also pray. Christian experience death, Muslim and Traditional believers also do. Christian experience poverty, Muslim experience poverty and Traditional believers also do. Christian faces unemployment’s, Muslim faces unemployment’s and Traditional believers also do. What are we fighting for as a believers  of difference denominations? What we all need as a human beings is Unity and Love for one another irrespective of your beliefs system. We have no other home than Nigeria, let us come together and build our country called “Nigeria “with respect for one another.

PEACE IN NIGER DELTA RESOLVE BY IJAW TRADITIONAL RULERS, NOT MILITARY- GBARAMATU SPOKESPERSON REVEALS

URGES FG TO PARTNER PANDEF FOR PEACE IN N’ DELTA REGION

Spokeperson of Gbaramatu Traditional Council in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, Chief Godpower Gbenekama JP says peace currently enjoyed  in the Niger Delta region is as a resolve of some respected Ijaw Traditional Rulers in the region as well as elders, Youths and other stakeholders across the entire region to maintain peace, law and order and not the military deployed to the region.

Chief Gbenekama revealed that the Pere of The Great Gbaramatu Kingdom His Royal Majesty Oboro Gbaraun 11 in 2016 to  2018 moved round length and breathe of Niger Delta States preaching peace and unity among people, even met with other traditional rulers telling the people the need for peace to be maintained in the region which they have imbibed at all levels.

He stressed that in order  to achieve peace in Niger Delta the Great Gbaramatu Monarch Oboro Gbaraun 2 invited youths across Niger Delta States to Oporoza the Traditional headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom, where the youths assured that they will give peace a chance and took oath of peace which they have kept so far, adding that the federal government and International Oil companies operating in the area should work closely  with traditional rulers in the region for  more sustainable peaceful  breakthrough among indigenous people and host companies operating in the Delta.

The Great  Gbaramatu Kingdom Spokesman (Fiyewei) acknowledged the presence of security agents which will deter criminals from the area and  appealed to military personnel  drafted to the area to treat indigenes of the kingdom and others with dignity and decency like other Nigerians elsewhere, urging them not to be used to disenfranchise Gbaramatu people as they have re-mobilized to vote in their various communities as well as other Ijaw communities in the riverine areas, he accused the security agents for seizure of some passenger boats carrying people to go and vote last week before it was rescheduled,  urged them not allow it happen again in order for citizens to exercise their civic rights.

He urged federal government to partner PANDEF in order to promote peace in Niger Delta as championed through the  group, just as he commended youths, elders , chiefs and other stakeholders across the region for their commitment to peace in Niger Delta.

Chief Gbenekama posited that the Pere of Gbaramatu Oboro Gbaraun 11 has charged Gbaramatuans to come out enmasse to cast their ballot and shun  any act that may give room to security agents for maltreatment of the people as they may  have planned.

DO YOU WANT TO GO BACK TO THE SLAVERY DAYS? –BARRISTER S. SMOOTH

The general election that is coming up from tomorrow Saturday 23rd of February 2019. I will like all and sundry to ponder over the happenings in our country and ask our selves this simple question:
DO YOU WANT TO GO BACK TO THE SLAVERY DAYS? –BARRISTER S. SMOOTH

image

If your answer is no, then choose to vote wisely rather than collecting money from the same old political cable who want you and I to be enslaved forever.

They’re planning to sell NNPC, the only remaining pride of the Niger Delta region to themselves, while we continue to suffer in perpetual poverty.

Contractors handling some community projects are smiling to the bank while the project is incomplete.

Schools are no more functioning because of inadequate funding, corruption has eaten the fiber of our nation and we can not continue this way.

Say no to the return of corrupt politicians, say no to the tricks of the PDP and vote wisely.

EGBEMA——Ijaw media practitioners storm Egbema kingdom in Warri North local government area Delta state, throw weight to the Presidential candidate Alhaj Atiku Abubakar. The president of the right group Comr. Tamaradenyefa Saya , has appealed to all eligible voters in ijaw, Urhobo and Itsekiri Nation to vote massively for PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar,  Sen. Okowa for second tenure , J. E. Manager and Hon Evelyn Oboro for Senate; and other PDP candidates come Saturday 23rd February, 2019.

Tamaradenyefa in a statement by the Media and Publicity Secretary of the Group , Comr. Gbewei Lawon , noted that the many failures of the APC national government; especially poor performance in socioeconomic policies and programmes for which Ijaw, Urhobo and Itsekiri Nation remain short changed, is one of the major reasons why the good people of south south zone political resolved to vote for the former Vice President and 2019 PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

He also cited severe insecurity problems, escalated poverty and mismanagement of the nation’s financial resources as multifaceted bane of President Muhammadu Buhari led administration, which prompted full scale system and leadership breakdown in the past three years and eight months and still counting.

Tamaradenyefa predicted the crash of APC and President Buhari at the polls come Saturday, adding that Buhari and his party failed to fulfill promises made to Nigerians during the 2015 presidential campaign; as can be seen in the increase of pump price of patrol from N97 in 2015 to N145 instead of reduction in pump price per little.

Other sins of the Buhari administration, according to PDP youth President , included; embarrassing hike in foreign exchange rate from N164 to U.S. dollar in 2015 to N450 to the dollar immediately Buhari assumed office, failure to address the consistent insecurity in the country and his large appetite for lopsided federal appointments as well as concentration of Hausa-Fulani kinsmen in top military commands, Service Chiefs and in all top security positions in the country.

He said the height of President Buhari’s ethnic politics and tribal bigotry in the management of the nation’s affairs has created a wide lacuna in the polity as well as religious sentiments; as can be seen from the poor handling of criminal activities of some Fulani Herdsmen in the South-South geopolitical zone; and other parts of the country.

He therefore urged eligible voters to Vote  Atiku for President on Saturday February 23rd, 2019, adding that things can only turn around for the better with Atikins-Obi at the helm of the nation’s affairs as President and Vice President.

In the same vein, the warri North and Ovia south west local government area PDP Chieftain urged eligible voters in Egbema kingdom to cast their votes for PDP Candidates in the both , the people voice right group , describing Okowa and others as a political diva with a heart of gold, noting that Okowa has been able to prove for his leadership skills as worthy representative of the people; through excellent legislative advocacy, empowerment of constituents and impactful legislative advocacy as member representing Delta south senatorial district National Assembly,

Delta south  regrets the unwarranted radical posture and misrepresentation by immediate past governor Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan in the past Eight years as Governor, Delta south senatorial seat APC candidate nothing to write about in Ijaw and Itsekiri communities, he is a father of sentimental leadership and instigator  of ethnic crisis in warri North, warri North never one day feel that we produce a Governor to this great Delta, he empowered thugs to embezzled all allocation meant for the riverine developement, they enrich themselves by building estates and mansions in other people’s land by abandonment of there communities,
The political imbalance in warri North council is roots of many crisis,  vote crisis out 23 February polls,

Tamaradenyefa also urges the Urhobo nation to Vote out Sen. Omo Agege tomorrow, 23th Feb, His suspension for a whopping 180 days remains a big blow to Delta Central and we cannot forget in a hurry his arrogant and disrespect for the Senate leadership. He remains a major disappointment and shall subsequently be voted out on Saturday.

“We are by this statement urging our people in South south political zone to vote Atiku for President,  as other PDP candidates across board at the polls on Saturday.

“Chief Great Ogboru of the APC has no integrity and leadership history. He is a debtor-fish-seller who cannot be trusted with the affairs of our dear state. We must be weary of his aggressive and violent approach towards 2019 governorship election in the state.

PDP shall sustain issues  based campaign irrespective of the ongoing harassment and intimidation by the opposition APC in the state.

“Gov Okowa’s track records as a seasoned democrat, public administrator, medical practitioner, distinguished senator and former Secretary to Delta State Government takes him thousands of miles away from the mediocre politician, Chief Great Ogboru of APC.

The Smart Governor is a promise keeper. His vision of a prosperous and Stronger Delta that guarantees Better Days ahead is what Deltans are yearning for and Saturday March 9, is D-Day for his re-election,” the statement added.

Chief Ugedi charged Nigerian Youths to jettison the derogatory qualification used by President Buhari against them and fight hard to revert the old order and vote Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar/Peter Obi ticket which according to him  will give Youths their real place in Nigeria political space.

How Niger Deltans thronged Udu to honour NDM publisher as he dedicates baby Jacinta to God – Liberator News

By Egbemavoice

Niger Deltans on Sunday thronged NBTC street in Udu Local Government Area, Delta State in honour of the publisher of Niger Delta Mirror, Comr. Charles Oyimbi Onduku as he dedicated his lovely daughter baby Jacinta Oyindoubra Elaebi.

It would be recalled that the baby dedication took place at the St. John Christ Army Church, Ekete Waterside in Udu Local Government Area, Delta State.

According to the sermon by Rev. Joseph Igere, the Sunday message was tagged “Dedication”.

In the mind blowing message, Rev. Joseph had maintained that the Lord almighty is the beginning and end of this world hence he said Christians need to dedicate everything to God.

He said without God, men are nothing, stressing that children are  special gifts hence they need to be dedicated to the Lord Almighty for his protection.

Preaching about many issues, the anointed servant of God had particularly charged Christians to be patient with God, adding that people should not be in a hurry as God answers prayers. Example of how a woman he described as “impatient” ended up broken her matrimonial home as she could not endure the temporal hardship they have being through.

However, shortly after the dedication of baby Oyindoubra, there was a grand reception at his residence along the NBTC area in Udu where guests where lavishly entertained.

The Liberator can report that the reception turned out to be a celebration galore as the NDM publisher and his lovely Yerinkere  Glory Boukan (Mrs. Oyimbi Onduku) was fully on ground to serve guests.

It would be recalled that the dedication on Sunday 10th of February 2019 attracted Niger Delta rights activists, politicians, legal luminaries, youth leaders, family members, friends with the host of others too numerous to mention.

Few of the 109 Senate battles on Saturday would be as watched as the battle in Delta between two former allies, colleagues and party men, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, the immediate past governor of Delta State and Senator James Manager. The contest for the Delta South Senate seat turned into an anti-climax in 2015 when Dr. Uduaghan as the incumbent governor of Delta State withdrew from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Senate primaries after a famous falling apart between the two men. Dr. Uduaghan’s bid to claim the Senate seat was firmly rebuffed by Senator Manager who upon then proceeded for a fourth straight term in the Senate. Dr. Uduaghan last year defected from the PDP, the party he belonged to for 18 years and on whose platform he served as governor for eight years, secretary to the state government, commissioner among others. Senator Manager on his part traces his political beginnings to the Third Republic where he served as state commissioner for sports and was the foundation chairman of the PDP in Delta State. In this interview with the two contenders, they ventilate on their aspirations, plans and purposes in a battle that is bound to stir the interest of stakeholders on the land and in the creeks of the delta.

Excerpts:
Why Manager must go – Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan  By Emma Amaize, South-South Editor, Jimitota Onoyume, Asst News Editor, Festus Ahon & Chancel Sunday What has been your message to the people in your campaign?  Uduaghan-Manager I have packaged my message in my campaign manifesto. We have issues to address in Niger Delta and Delta South Senatorial District is like nucleus of the Niger Delta. Delta South in terms of economic base, has the largest quantity of crude oil in the Niger Delta. Some of the crises in the region have histories that have to do with Delta South; I was involved in the management of these crises at various levels while in office. My strategy for managing these issues as governor of the state then was engagement by the state and enforcement; law and order on the part of federal government. There was respite because of that but I do not think the respite is sustainable.
We need to do something more so that the Niger Delta will be less problematic to manage. Delta South voice muffled in Abuja Right now, the Delta South voice in Abuja, to me, is not audible enough, not heard as much as necessary; people need to know that there is a Delta South in Nigeria. Not Delta South that is involved in violence, not Delta South that is involved in crime, but Delta South that is speaking for Delta South and by extension the people of Niger Delta.
That has been campaign message to people. Your major opponent, Sen. James Manager, has been in the Senate for 16 years, now going, how do you intend to dislodge him? I do not know why you used the word “dislodge”. Rather, I am vying for it and I want to sit on that seat. How I am going to do it? It is by bringing issues to the table and I am already bringing them to the table. My campaign is issue-based and not person-based, not even ethnic-based. It is about what are the issues affecting us. I have the capacity, I have the knowledge, I have the reach and I have the experience because I have been there and that is why I am presenting myself for the race. JEW+P Let me tell you, my mission to the Senate will be focused on four pillars, which I call the JEW+P (Jobs, Empowerment, Wealth plus Peace).

As a former Secretary to the Delta State Government and a former two-term governor of the state, I know and understand the pains and needs of the people. There were things I wanted to do to open up opportunities and bring economic development to the people, but I could not do because I was constrained by the laws of the country. This was what fired my desire to represent the people at the Senate. There is this claim that the PDP your former party has been rigging elections in the state. That is a party on which platform you were governor of the state for eight years. Your victories -were they achieved through rigging? Not at all and it could not have been. In fact, after elections, there were usually tribunals. Overall, they took me to tribunals and there were about 19 tribunal cases. I passed through 77 judges. That is why I have written a book about my electoral cases. If my elections were rigged, I would not have been in office for eight years. There was a time the judges said that I should go and re-contest. The basis for that was that at the time there was confusion in the judiciary. The plaintiff said I rigged and the court said I should prove I did not rig. However, my lawyers did not prove that I did not rig and because of that, the court said I should leave office. Nevertheless, I am happy that the Supreme Court has corrected that. Apart from that, all the other cases I won and I do not know if the 77 judges would have been wrong.  We have been hearing about a purported power sharing agreement in Delta South senatorial district, is it such a treaty? Let me say this; Nigeria is a multi-ethnic society and because of its multi-ethnic nature, there are ethnic groups with large populations and there are ones with small population. Over the years, people have been looking at how the ones with small population get power and how the ones with large population ensure that the small ones get power.
They put different mechanisms in place, but as at today, I would not want to get involved in that debate. I will get involved when I have finished taken part in my election. From my experience, that is the way it should be. Now, I do not want anybody to drag me into the debate on power shift or power rotation. The people of Delta South will -Senator Manager Senator James Manager is the incumbent Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.   In this interview at his Warri residence, he spoke on February 16 National Assembly elections, his preparedness and much talked-about zoning arrangement.

 Excerpts:

You have been in the campaigns gunning for your fifth term; what have been your staying power and your hopes on February 16? As representative of the people of Delta South, I have tried to serve the people diligently with their interest uppermost in my heart. I do only those things that make them feel happy. People expect a lawmaker to do extraordinary things, influence so many things physically to your own people.

Therefore, at my level I have been able to do that. I may not have done it to the maximum satisfaction of people but on the average, I think so far so good, I am giving my people good representation. That is the reason I am still serving. Sir, what has been your message to the people in your campaign? My campaign is about continuity. Just allow me to continue to serve.
By that, I mean I have been on the seat and I participated in almost everything. I have also influenced quite a number of things and I want to believe that the people of Delta South believe in me that my continuity will bring more dividends of democracy to them. I cannot say what I have done so far has satisfied a hundred percent of my people.

My constituents are so articulate and intelligent and so if I were not doing well, they would have definitely rejected me long ago. Even within the PDP, I passed through a very turbulent test; I mean the party primaries, not just the recent one but all the other ones that have come and gone. We have put in place mechanisms in the party where the most popular person is always projected and that I passed through. It is not as if I disqualified the other people and emerged as a candidate. Now, the judgment of the people of Delta South I am relying on, and that judgment by the grace of God will be very wonderful.  Some of your lead contenders from the Itsekiri axis insist that it is their turn to produce the next Senator on February 16; what is your take on that? Yes, because of the clamour for rotation, I promised that beyond this 2019 election, by the grace of God I will provide the platform where the ethnic nationalities will assemble for an all-round discussion and that discussion will be the first of its kind. I have been contesting with people from everywhere.
Even when I contested in 2003, I contested with people from everywhere. Nobody zoned it to a particular ethnic group. I have been contesting with people, not just party primaries, not just main elections, election tribunals but also post-election matters. Most of them went up to the Supreme Court. So, as I sit down here talking to you, I cannot remember at any point in time when it was zoned to me or zoned to one particular ethnic group where only people from that ethnic group contested and I won.
However, because of the clamour that it has to rotate, and for us to have peace, I will provide the platform, God willing if I win. That clamour is coming for the first time as far as I am concerned. If anybody remembered at any time that people sat down, discussed and agreed that it must be the turn of this ethnic group or that. We need to grow beyond this ethnicity thing. When my very good friend, colleague and ally, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, wanted to be governor of Delta State, the entire Delta South came together and there was nothing like ethnicity; ethnicity was not an issue and he got bulk of the votes.
I want to put on record that I have never at any point in time done anything to undermine any ethnic group I represent in my sojourn in the Senate, to God be the glory. Are you worried by the threat of federal might? Well, elections have been taking place in this country and not just this one. So, I don’t know whether something different will happen, because I also hear people boasting that results will be pre-written and announcements will be made contrary to the voting pattern. The boasting is there and we are watching, we are waiting, but I do not want to believe it, though the rumors are very strong. I am very confident as we speak. The people peddling those rumors have their reasons for doing so but I am very confident going by what is on ground.
I am the candidate to beat and people will be surprised if the contrary be the case because we are talking about Delta South Senatorial District.
The story cannot be different in my humble view and it is difficult to see it otherwise.  Sir, people see the race between you and former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan as an epic battle; how do you see it and how do you want to tackle him?  Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan is the immediate past governor of Delta State and that makes it very significant. Not only immediate past governor, he was a PDP man. He benefited for clearly 16 years under the PDP. The people under the PDP elected him governor three times. He was a PDP man until very recently and therefore people are bound to have that feeling that it is an epic battle. I do not see any epic battle. The man himself knows that there is no epic battle here because the APC is not on ground. Do not forget, in 2015 APC in Delta State did not even take second and their worst results came from Delta South. Therefore, it is just in news, beyond the news there is no epic battle. APC is yet to register itself in the minds of Delta Southerners. Related

Nigeria police must remain neutral during the elections – Mulade

By Egbemavoice

WARRI—– Ahead of the 2019  general elections, in their bids to see a free, fair, credible and peaceful elections across the Nigerian Federation, the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ in collaboration with PHEW Foundation International has organized a peace walk to sensitize people of the Niger Delta region.

CEPEJ under the firm leadership of its national chairman, Comr. Sheriff Mulade had mobilized hundreds of people drawn across the Niger Delta region to preach the message of peace round the oil city of Warri and its environs yesterday.

The peace walk begins from the NNPC Junior Staff Club, Bendel Estate, Ugborikoko, Warri in Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State and terminated at the Nigerian Police Area Command headquarters near NPA.

However, while addressing Niger Deltans that massively turned out for the peace walk at the NNPC Junior Staff Club before taking off, Mulade had charged all participants to go about the rally peacefully.

The renowned Niger Delta activist cum philanthropist had hinted the mammoth crowd on the reason for the rally, stressing that peace, security, love, unity and the conduct of a free, fair, peaceful and credible elections is the reason for the peace campaign.

“The purpose of this rally is to sensitize our people on the need for peace ahead of the 2019 general elections, this rally will be heard and watched all over the world” Mulade asserted.

Nevertheless, the peace walk take off from the NNPC junior staff club to the busy airport road down to estate and from there to Esisi road to finally terminate at the Nigeria Police Area Command, Headquarters in Warri.

While addressing the press, the rights activist had among other issues charged the Nigeria Police to continue to remain neutral during the general elections.

Text of the address presented by the CEPEJ national coordinator reads in part: “The peace walk of today, the 11th of February, 2019, is necessitated by the very sensitive period we find ourselves in Nigeria, the period of election is less than a week from today, Nigeria will hold the long awaited general elections that will usher in a new government.

“From history, Nigeria elections remain some of the most volatile in the world. The Center for Peace and Environmental Justice is very concerned about the incessant deaths as a result of bickering, discrepancies and the unbridled desire by our politicians to win elections by all means. There is hardly any election in which Nigeria does not lose a crop of promising men and women due to electoral crises.

“It therefore behoves on well meaning Nigerians to do every thing possible to fight against violence and bloodshed that characterized previous elections in the country. This is why we have taken it upon ourselves to sensitize the public as well as call on the Inspector General of Police, the military and all those charged with the responsibility to maintain peace in our land to ensure that no life is lost in this 2019 elections.

“We are also calling on all political parties to ensure peace as elections are not a do-or-die affair. Elections should not be taken to the extreme of losing lives and shedding the blood of any Nigerian who is higher and greater than the entire exercise.

“The number of people that have come out to support our NGO in actualizing this peace walk is a pointer to the fact that millions of Nigerians want violence free elections. The crowd here today have joined the CEPEJ peace walk to your office to help convey to the Acting Inspector General of Police our desire for violence free elections in Nigeria.

“Please note that in the last general elections, the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) led by its National Coordinator, Comrade Sheriff Mulade complemented the efforts of security agents and electoral umpire through peaceful advocacy to promote unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

“The Center is a Pan African non governmental, non-religious, non political and not-for-profit civil society organization established in 2007 as Niger Delta Reorientation Project, NDRP. It identifies and analyzes factors inhibiting the attainment of harmonious relations among ethnic groups, particularly the barriers to their participation in social, economic, commercial, financial, cultural and political endeavors.”

Meanwhile at the terminal point of the peace rally at The Area Command Headquarters, The Nigeria Police Force, Warri, near NPA in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, in his response to the national coordinator of CEPEJ on behalf of the Area commandant, Mr. Mohammed Shebba; CSP Spencer Tyozu, head office operations Area Command, Warri had assured the organization of trying its best in ensuring that the elections are free, fair, credible and peaceful.

Mr. Tyozu had particularly lauded Mulade for the peace walk ahead of the 2019 general elections, describing the rights activist as a good spirited Nigerian.

In his words: “The police will not let you down in your quest for peace, peace has always been the utmost priority of the Nigeria Police, I will do well to pass this message to my superior authorities as you had requested”

The command head of operations had further tasked other Nigerians and NGOs to emulate the virtues of Mulade.

Some of the placards brandished by the peace campaigners yesterday reads: “Shine your eyes, ensure you vote not fight; Who gra gra help, many don die, use jeje go vote; No go snatch ballot box o, dem go arrest you; Vote not fight; Make peace win in the elections; Correct guys dey vote not snatch box; There is life after the elections, embrace peace”.

It would be recalled that the 2019 peace walk took off from Uvwie Local Government Area and terminated at Warri South Local Government, Delta State.

IYC President Condemns killings in Bayelsa Over 2019 Election.

Press Release..
IYC President Condemns killings in Bayelsa Over 2019 Election.

By Egbemavoice.blogspot.com

The national leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Barr. Oweilaemi Pereotubo has condemned in very strong terms the heightening and increasing cases of electoral violence which led to killings  in Bayelsa State ahead of the 2019 general election.

Oweilaemi disclosed in a press statememt Tuesday, said The daily attacks and reprisals which have resulted to the deaths of two promising young men at Famgbe in Yenagoa Local Government Area and Tungbo in Sagbama Local Government Area is unfortunate and very condemnable. This ugly development has become great source of worry and concern to all critical stakeholders considering the strategic importance of Bayelsa State as the home and Jerusalem of the entire Ijaw Nation.

The sponsors and perpetrators of these violence and heinous crimes should know that Bayelsa State is the umbilical cord and great rope that is holding the Ijaw Nation together thus  should be guided and protected jealousy at least in the general interest of the Ijaw Nation. Bayelsa State beside been the only homogeneous Ijaw State,  also serves as our pride, symbol of unity, our identity and Ijawness and above all, our greatness.

We therefore appeal to leaders of two leading parties in the state: PDP and APC in Bayelsa State to call their members, loyalists and supporters to order. What the Ijaw Nation need most at this time in our political evolution is massive growth and development and not destruction of lives and property in the name of politics. We should realize that we were first born Ijaws before our membership of political parties. It is also important to bear in mind that while the present political parties like others before them will go into extinction someday but our identity, unique Ijawness and brotherhood shall remain.’’ He stated.

Continuing  ‘‘Council is using this opportunity to advice our great youths to be wise and should not allow themselves to be used as willing tools in the hands of selfish and self-seeking politicians whose primary aim is to amass wealth, promote and project their inordinate ambitions and not sacrifice for the growth and development of our great people. Our youths should learn from previous elections where the same leaders used and dumped them.

Every youth has a great destiny that is threatened by prevalent challenges and unpleasant circumstances that we must strive to overcome. We cannot achieve our great destinies if we do not build ourselves and capacities and there is absolutely no way, we cannot build ourselves if we continue to serve as willing tools in the hands of politicians who want to use us to destroy our fellow youths and brothers.it is important to know that election is not war. Let us go about our campaigns without violence. The 2019 general election will come and go’’ he admonished.

Trouble as NAGS alleges technical militarization of  Gbaramatu Kingdom – Liberator News

By egbemavoice.blogspot.com

Students under the auspices of National Association of Gbaramatu students, NAGS have raised alarm on what they described as technical militarization of the Kingdom.

This was made known to our reporter earlier today by the National Secretary of NAGS, Comr. Collins Oturubo.

Oturubo had stated that the entire kingdom is in panic as military gunboats have been moving strangely within the length and breadth of the Kingdom.

He had particularly described the situation as worrisome as Gbaramatu had been very peaceful, stressing that the scary deployment of the gunboats is totally uncalled for.

He said the Kingdom is at war with no one, wondering on why such heavily armed boats and soldiers will be deployed to the area.

Meanwhile, it would be recalled that military helicopters where hoovering round Gbaramatu, particularly the Oporoza, Kurutie axis which causes panic among students, sons and daughters of the Kingdom.

The NAGS chieftain had further stated that the movements of gunboats in the Kingdom has been on for days now.

Collins had however, called on authorities to bring to an end the silently and technical militarization of the kingdom, adding that people can no longer sleep with their two eyes closed.

Meanwhile, it would be recalled that up till now, reasons for the movement of the gunboats and helicopters into Gbaramatu is still not known.

I will not betray the trust of Itsekiri people – Guwor

By Egbemavoice.blogspot.com

The paramount ruler of Itsekiri, otherwise known as the Olu of Warri, His Royal Majesty, Ogiame, Ikenwole I, has told Sir Dennis Emomotimi Guwor, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate for Warri South West, Delta State house of Assembly to go into the election and be victorious.

The Olu of Warri made the remark earlier today in his palace, Warri during a visit by candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Delta State.

Some of the candidates include Sen. James E. Manager, Senator Representing Delta South who doubles as the candidate of the senatorial district; High Chief Thomas Ereyitomi, candidate Warri Federal Constituency, House of representatives, Abuja; Sir Dennis Emomotimi Guwor, candidate Warri South West, Delta State House of Assembly among others.

However, Emomotimi Guwor had pledged not to betray the trust of the Itsekiri people in Warri South West, stressing that he will continue to add more value to the system by drawing more development to the area when elected.

Meanwhile, Ikenwole had also advised the PDP candidates to always be truthful to their people in their dealings.

“Victory, progress is yours, as politicians, always tell people the truth, don’t castigate people, tell the people what you can do and what you cannot do. Do well to make politics interesting without any form of bitterness or rancour” Ogiame stated.

It would be recalled that the entourage of the PDP candidates contains high profiled state government functionaries, PDP chieftains in the state, party leaders from Ogbe-Ijoh, Isaba, Gbaramatu, Diebiri, Itsekiri PDP leaders with the host of others too numerous to mention.

Breaking: Egbesu general, Adowei defeats death after 250 bullets fired on him – Liberator News

Says may Egbesu be praised

Egbemavoice.blogspot.com

Former leader, Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND cum Chairman, Egbesu generals, self styled Gen. Freedom Adowei has escaped death after sustaining 250 bullets  fired on him by unknown gunmen suspected to be All Progressives Congress, APC thugs yesterday.

According to his spokesman, Barrister Frank Ekpemupolo who briefed pressmen on the matter had stated that Adowei convoy was attacked  by the hoodlums while returning back from his house to house campaign for Atiku Abubakar, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP presidential candidate  in Akure, the capital of Ondo state at 3: 30 in Akure yesterday, capital of Ondo state.

It would be recalled that the ex MEND leader was a strong believer of Egbesu, believed to be the protector of the Ijaw people in times of war, danger and the facilitator of development, progress.

The Egbesu general had being a henchman for the APC within the last few years but decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP recently after Atiku Abubakar emerged presidential candidate for the PDP ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Upon his return to the PDP, he had frequently used the media in advocating for an Atiku presidency, stressing that Abubakar remains the only antidote for a working Nigeria.

The Gen. Had earlier pledged to produce thousands of votes to ensure the victory of Atiku’s presidency.

However, it was learnt that Adowei, chairman of Egbesu generals in the Niger Delta had in a meeting recently held in Ondo state issued out a communique declaring the group’s support for the Atiku/ Obi ticket for presidency, with a promise to mobilize votes within the Niger Delta and beyond through house to house campaign.

In the meeting that was well attended by former warlords of the region including strong men from other ethnic nationalities within Niger Delta, the group chaired by Adowei had stated that they were not induced financially towards doing a campaign for Atiku by the PDP, but maintained that such was their contribution in making Nigeria great again where democratic tenets will fully be operational.

It was gathered that one of his boy, name withheld sustained serious bullet injury and is now receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital within the South East.

Meanwhile, Frank Ekpemupolo, spokesman to the Egbesu general had stated that Egbesu deserves praises as it fortified Adowei against the hoodlums after receiving 250 heavy bullets without any scratch on his body and  to also rescue him miraculously to his destination.

Oborotu, Obotebe in tears as Akala 51 journeys home – Liberator News

By egbemavoice.blogspot.com

The entire people of Oborotu in Iduwini Kingdom, Delta State and Obotebe, all in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State have been thrown into deep mourning and tears as Chief Lucky Preboye, popularly known as Akala, as he goes to the land of no return.

Chief Lucky Preboye, the Darekoro 1 of Iduwini Kingdom, Delta State was aged 51 with three children and a wife.

Until his mysterious death that became a news on the 24th of December 2018, he was a renowned Niger Delta freedom fighter, a patriot, philanthropist and a big time contractor in the Maritime sector, particularly the security aspect of it. He had worked closely with different personalities within and outside the region in the escort of tug boats, barges and even ships.

Akala had used his hard earned resources in the transformation of many lives within and outside the Niger Delta on those that came in contact with him.

The sudden death of Chief Lucky is so painful that his burial yesterday at Ofougbene in Burutu Local Government Area nearly caused other issues as his loved ones and family members could not hold back their tears.

It would be recalled that Akala died while his mother and father is still alive.

AJAKURAMAVOICE CONDEMN THE INHUMAN TREATMENT GIVEN TO AJAKURAMA PEOPLE SINCE THE INCEPTION OF THE MILITARY INVASION.

Edo——Ajakuramavoice A.K.A golden pen the social cultural organization that advocates for the development of Egbema kingdom, Edo/Delta states, condemned the inhuman treatment received by the indigenes of Ajakurama Community  Egbema kingdom Ofunama ward, Ovia south west local government area Edo state.

The people of Ajakurama are uncomfortable and  unrest over the sadistic and barbaric treatment by the military.

Ajakurama people are been oppressed out of cruelty even in their God given land, the right of old men and women is been violated and their existence is under terrible threat.

Ijaw community is treated like a war zone even in the absence of not even communal clash around that terrain.
On 14th January 2019 Ajakurama community was under tension where people were running up and down, youths were beating by the military personnel in Ajakurama town,  on 15th  January 2019 same operation was carried out, the beating continued, many  were obviously seen running for safety, and daily activities was totally disorganized and truncated, even movements was restricted for some hours  before it was lifted, this is not practiced anywhere in these country except  in Ijaw communities it’s so pathetic and uncalled for.

The right group national president had a chat with the Ajakurama community chairman  SNR. COMR Powei B.  Telate,he told us that he was informed of the inferno and some youths protested against the maltreatment the military gave the youth of Ajakurama town, and he went to the military personnel to inquire from them what actually transpired and they told him they were trying to change the youths hairstyle, they even succeeded in cutting some of the youth hair and the rest of the youths went and protested which led the beating of our youths. All the arrested youths has been released to the community chairman without any further charge .

Ajakuramavoice is just not happy with this ugly development in Ijaw nation and Niger Delta at large.

image

Our community correspondent gathered that this is a continuous operation in Ajakurama community and neighbouring communities in Egbema kingdom.

There are several people involved in the recent maltreatment. Below are some of the victims of the ugly incident
PERE PIPI,
Oleleya, segun seituwa, Chief (Mrs) Ezimor Goodluck seituwa,

Kimizitei Ukpowei Sile and others .

We also gathered that
the splitting of groups into factions in Ajakurama is also responsible for this evil act thereby making the community ungovernable.

Ijaw communities  are not involved in any form of war so why all these molestation and intimidation in Ijaw nation?

Ajakurama people always welcome  security personnel whenever they  deem it fit to come a round  but the actions of military  in Ajakurama community is bias and unscrupulous.
The military personnel should be neutral in Egbema politics,  and conduct themselves as public servants,

They should not be a threat to Egbema, the conduct of the security personnel is so unprofessional and highly condemnable.

Photos speak the evil act.

IPDI ASKS FAVOUR IZOUKUMOR TO ACCOUNT FOR ABOUT 50MILLION CHRISTMAS WELFARE FUND DISBURSED TO IJAW ETHNIC NATIONALITY BY DESOPASEC

By Ajakuramavoice news

WARRI____Ijaw right protection group, Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative, IPDI, has demanded detailed account of the 50million christmas welfare funds allocated to Ijaw ethnic nationality by Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission DESOPADEC, adding that it would dragged the commissioner representing Ijaw ethnic nationality in the commission, Chief Izuokumor Favour before high authorities , if he fails to offered proper stewardship within reasonable time.

The group lamented that except his friends and kinsemen,  the core Ijaw oil producing and impacted communities were not considered for the disbursement. “He should state Ijaw groups and communities that were considered without further delay” they asserted.

The spokesman of the group, Snr Comrade Daniel Ezekiel while addressing a team of pressmen in Sapele alleged that DESOPADEC disbursed the sum of Fifty Million Naira (#50,000,000) each to all ethnic nationalities including the Ijaw in the commission as part of social welfare package for the Christmas and Newyear celebrations but the funds were mismanaged.

IPDI also told our reporter that the Ijaw ethnic commissioner, Chief Izuokumor Favour, selfishly withheld the money and lavished part of it on his friends and family members. The fund which was meant to support less privileged people in the Oil producing and impacted communities was mismanaged.

The group accused chief Favour for diverting speed boats that were meant for oil producing and impacted communities by the commission some time last year. Adding that they are disappointed in him for lacking integrity.

When contacted the Media representative of DESOPADEC (Name Withheld) ,he confirmed that there was disbursement of funds from the commission to all ethnic nationalities, but the commission is not in position to decide how the funds should be disbursed to the grassroots, he added.

He further stated that the DESOPADEC remained committed in spreading developmental projects to all communities in the state. He called on Ijaws to demand accountability from their commissioner for the realization of their benefits.

The IPDI group also further noted that marginalisation of Ijaw contractors by the commission and underdevelopment of oil bearing communities were occasioned by the gross ineptitude and selfish political ambition of Izuokumor Favour. “It was obvious that his illegitimate tenure elongation in the commission was arbitrary and does not represent the general interest of Ijaw nationality”.

Lady C.P Kekai Ph.D:

THE PROUD IJAW PEOPLE

We the Ijaw people (also known by the subgroups “Ijo” or “Izon”), are a collection of people indigenous mostly to the regions of the Bayelsa, Edo, Delta, Ondo, Akwa Ibom and Rivers States within the Niger Delta in Nigeria. Many of us are found as migrant fishermen in camps as far west as Sierra Leone and as far east as Gabon along the Western Africa. The Ijo population is estimated to be over 15 million people. We have long lived in locations near many sea trade routes, and we were well connected to other areas by trade as early as the 15th century.

Ijaw languages

The Ijaw speak nine closely related Niger–Congo languages, all of which belong to the Ijoid branch of the Niger–Congo tree. The primary division between the Ijo languages is that between Eastern Ijo and Western Ijo, the most important of the former group of languages being Izon, which is spoken by about ten million people.

There are two prominent groupings of the Izon language. The first, termed either Western or Central Izon (Ijaw) consists of Western Ijaw speakers: Tuomo Clan, Ekeremor, Sagbama (Mein), Bassan, Apoi, Arogbo, Boma (Bumo), Kabo (Kabuowei), Ogboin, Tarakiri, and Kolokuma-Opokuma. Nembe, Brass and Akassa (Akaha) dialects represent Southeast Ijo (Izon). Buseni and Okordia dialects are considered Inland Ijo.

The other major Ijaw linguistic group is Kalabari. Kalabari is considered an Eastern Ijaw language but the term “Eastern Ijaw” is not the normal nomenclature. Kalabari is the name of one of the Ijaw clans that reside on the eastern side of the Niger-Delta (Abonnema, Buguma, Bakana, Degema etc.) who form a major group in Rivers State, Other “Eastern” Ijaw clans are the Andoni, Okrika, Ibani (the natives of Bonny, Finima and Opobo) and Nkoroo. They are neighbours to the Kalabari people in present-day Rivers State, Nigeria.

Other related Ijaw subgroups which have distinct languages but very close kinship, cultural and territorial ties with the rest of the Ijaw are the Epie-Atissa, Engenni (also known as Ẹgẹnẹ), and Degema (also called Udekama or Udekaama). The Ogbia clan, as well as residents of Bukuma and Abuloma (Obulom).

It was discovered in the 1980s that a now extinct Berbice Creole Dutch, spoken in Guyana, is partly based on Ijo lexicon and grammar. Its nearest relative seems to be Eastern Ijo, most likely Kalabari (Kouwenberg 1994).

Tribes

The Ijaw ethnic group consists of 50 loosely affiliated clans. These clans are based along kinship lines and/or shared cultural and religious traditions.

Traditional occupations

We, the Ijaws were one of the first of Nigeria’s peoples to have contact with Westerners, and were active as go-betweens in the slave trade between visiting Europeans and the peoples of the interior, particularly in the era before the discovery of quinine, when West Africa was still known as the “White Man’s Graveyard” because of the endemic presence of malaria. Some of the kin-based trading lineages that arose among the Ijaw developed into substantial corporations which were known as “houses”; each house had an elected leader as well as a fleet of war canoes for use in protecting trade and fighting rivals. The other main occupation common among the Ijaw has traditionally been fishing and farming.

Being a maritime people, many Ijaws were employed in the merchant shipping sector in the early and mid-20th century (pre-Nigerian independence). With the advent of oil and gas exploration in their territory, some are employed in that sector. Other main occupations are in the civil service of the Nigerian states of Bayelsa and Rivers where they are predominant.

Extensive state-government sponsored overseas scholarship programs in the 1970s and 1980s have also led to a significant presence of Ijaw professionals in Europe and North America (the so-called Ijaw diaspora). Another contributing factor to this human capital flight is the abject poverty in their homeland of the Niger Delta, resulting from decades of neglect by the Nigerian government and oil companies in spite of continuous petroleum prospecting in this region since the 1950s.

Lifestyle

The Ijaw people live by fishing supplemented by farming paddy-rice, plantains, yams, cocoyams, bananas and other vegetables as well as tropical fruits such as guava, mangoes and pineapples; and trading. Smoke-dried fish, timber, palm oil and palm kernels are processed for export. While some clans (those to the east- Akassa, Nembe, Kalabari, Okrika and Bonny) had powerful chiefs and a stratified society, other clans are believed not to have had any centralized confederacies until the arrival of the British. However, owing to influence of the neighbouring Kingdom of Benin individual communities even in the western Niger Delta also had chiefs and governments at the village level.

Marriages are completed by the payment of a bridal dowry, which increases in size if the bride is from another village (so as to make up for that village’s loss of her children). Funeral ceremonies, particularly for those who have accumulated wealth and respect, are often very dramatic. Traditional religious practices center around “Water spirits” in the Niger river, and around tribute to ancestors.

Religion and cultural practices

Although the Ijaw are now primarily Christians (70% profess to be), with Roman Catholicism, Anglicanism and Pentecostal being the varieties of Christianity most prevalent among them, they also have elaborated traditional religious practices of their own. Veneration of ancestors plays a central role in Ijaw traditional religion, while water spirits, known as Owuamapu figure prominently in the Ijaw pantheon. In addition, the Ijaw practice a form of divination called Igbadai, in which recently deceased

individuals are interrogated on the causes of their death. Ijaw religious beliefs hold that water spirits are like humans in having personal strengths and shortcomings, and that humans dwell among the water spirits before being born. The role of prayer in the traditional Ijaw system of belief is to maintain the living in the good graces of the water spirits among whom they dwelt before being born into this world, and each year the Ijaw hold celebrations in honor the spirits lasting for several days. Central to the festivities is the role of masquerades, in which men wearing elaborate outfits and carved masks dance to the beat of drums and manifest the influence of the water spirits through the quality and intensity of their dancing. Particularly spectacular masqueraders are taken to actually be in the possession of the particular spirits on whose behalf they are dancing.

The Ijaw are also known to practice ritual acculturation (enculturation), whereby an individual from a different, unrelated group undergoes rites to become Ijaw. An example of this is Jaja of Opobo, the Igbo slave who rose to become a powerful Ibani (Bonny) chief in the 19th century.

There are also a small number of Converts to Islam the most notable being the founder of the Delta People Volunteer Force, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari. Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin comes from the Ijaw ethnic group.

Food customs

Like many ethnic groups in Nigeria, the Ijaws have many local foods that are now widespread in Nigeria. Many of these foods involve fish and other seafoods such as clams, oysters and periwinkles; yams and plantains. Some of these foods are:

– Polofiyai: A very rich soup made with yams and palm oil
– Kekefiyai: A pottage made with chopped unripened (green) plantains, fish, other seafood or game meat (“bushmeat”) and palm oil
– Fried or roasted fish and plantain: Fish fried in palm oil and served with fried plantains
– Gbe:  The grub of the raffia-palm tree beetle that is eaten raw, dried, fried in groundnut oil or pickled in palm oil
– Kalabari “sea-harvest” fulo: A rich mixed seafood soup or stew that is eaten with foofoo, rice or yams.

Ethnic identity

Formerly organized into several loose clusters of villages (confederacies) which cooperated to defend themselves against outsiders, the Ijaw increasingly view themselves as belonging to a single coherent nation, bound together by ties of language and culture. This tendency has been encouraged in large part by what are considered to be environmental degradations that have accompanied the exploitation of oil in the Niger delta region which the Ijaw call home, as well as by a revenue sharing formula with the Nigerian Federal government that is viewed by the Ijaw as manifestly unfair. The resulting sense of grievance has led to several high-profile clashes with the Nigerian Federal authorities. The Ijaw people are resilient and proud. Long before after the colonial era, the Ijaw people traveled by wooded boats and canoes to Cameroun, Ghana and other West African countries. They traveled up the River Niger from River Nun.

s become obvious that our technological progress has succeeded in making us forget those havens whose confines are faithful sanctuaries of peace. Those places of unrestricted awesomeness; places like Ikogosi warm spring. The Ikogosi Warm Springs is a tourist attraction located at Ikogosi, a town in Ekiti State, Nigeria. Unarguably, Ikogosi spring is a geological wonder. It is said to be the only one of its kind discovered anywhere in the world. Ever fascinating as a result of its magical nature, the warm and cold springs of Ikogosi flow to a point where they meet, with each spring retaining its thermal identity.
The warm spring has a temperature of up to 70 degrees C at the source and 37 degrees C after meeting the cold spring. As a matter of fact, the meeting point of the warm and cold springs never fails to mesmerize the roving minds of tourists The meeting point of the warm and cold spring  (Hotels) And as one visitor puts it, “connecting with nature cannot be more rewarding.” Believe it or not, there is something exceptional about the spring. For words have it that if you believe in God and yourself, you can come to the spring with your burden to request for help. Be it illness or whatsoever. All that is required of you is a promise to come back and give your appreciation. However, as odd as these may seem to the so-called civilized minds, it is real. It has happened to people and they have come back on several occasions to appreciate the help of the Spring. It is very important to state here that the spring is not a deity that is being worship. Rather, it is the work of God that is being appreciated through the Spring. And apart from the transport fare to spring, not one penny will be demanded from you. At the warm spring resort, a large swimming pool fed by natural spring waters is at the disposal of visitors. The cool and tranquil ambiance provided by the forest does not only bring peace to the soul, it also gives a glimpse of what paradise on earth would be like.
Ikogosi warm spring entrance gate  (Hotels republic)
And beneath these side attractions lies the beautiful magic of the resort– the warm and cold springs galloping from separate spring points in the quartzite rocks and rolling down the naturally-terraced foot slopes to form a confluence beneath a concrete causeway. Here and there quartzite rocks lie lazily; as they are ever by gentle flows. Like every other place, Ikogosi warm spring has its own story of origin; not one though. Of the many stories surrounding it, the local mythological story claims that the spring came about when two wives of a great Hunter, one being temperamental and the other being quiet, transformed into the hot and cold temperature waters after their husband rebuked them for quarreling. However, what is assumed to be a more logical explanation has been proffered.
Geologists claim that the source of the warm spring is a deep fracture in the basement and that its source of heat is due to the normal geothermal gradient of the subsurface and not deep-seated mantle plume beneath the area. Be that as it may, it matters less to worry oneself as to which is right and wrong. The most important thing here is that life is beautiful. And to ensure that the beauty of Ikogosi warm spring is experienced by every lover of life, the state government is doing a commendable job.
Ikogosi warm spring  (Hotels)
Hence, like a double-edged sword, the spring shall not only be the source of enriching water to Ikogosi town, it shall also be an irresistible call to both local and international tourists.
When is the right time to visit Ikogosi warm spring? A particular time or season cannot be picked to be the best time to visit the spring. Because the magic of the spring calls out to visitors all year round.

ACrystal clear Ikogosi Warm Spring in Ekiti State is a top tourism potentiaL
Ikogosi is a small quiet town in Ekiti West Local Government area of Ekiti State, which has been catapulted to national and international limelight because of the presence of warm and cold springs flowing side by side in the town. The spring is known as the Ikogosi Warm Spring. The spring is a source of life for the people of the town and a source of revenue for the Ekiti State Government. There are many mysterious tales toward the flowing and origin of the springs. One being that the springs were wives of the same husband, whom after much rivalry and fighting, were turned into water springs; one, the fiery-ill tempered wife as the warm spring, and the cool tempered wife as the cold spring, whereas the surrounding hilly areas became the husband.
Another myth says a powerful hunter, who was hunting for animals in the bush, discovered the warm spring. After the discovery, the people of the town discovered that the warm water was curative, curing many diseases among them. Hence, the people started to worship the water. This was the situation until the 1960s when the late Nigerian educator and author, Tai Solarin heard about the spring and brought his students to the place for excursion. It was Tai Solarin that started the publicity for the warm spring before Rev. MacGee of the Baptist Church arrived to establish a student camp near to the area. It was Rev. Macgee who built a chapel (now the Conference Hall) and hostels (now Macgee Camp chalets) at the resort.
The volume of water coming from the springs remains constant and warm from morning to evening. A strong steam is noticed when one pays a visit to the warm spring source early in the morning. During the Harmattan period (a dry period which occurs usually from November to late March, including the period of dry, dusty Harmattan winds in December), a fog is also noticed at the source of the spring.
Scientifically, the reason for the hot and cold springs is that the further water travels underground the warmer it becomes. If by chance the water is pushed through an earth fault creating a spring, the flow will remain relatively high. The cold water comes from an adjoining hill. The warm and cold springs of Ikogosi flow parallel and meet somewhere down to form a confluence, with each maintaining its thermal quality. This is the first of such an occurrence in the world. The warm spring has a temperature of 70°c at the source and 37°c after meeting a cold spring. The meeting point of the warm and cold springs is a unique attraction to tourists. The whole environment of the area is left untouched by the government for eco-tourism appeal, while the source of the warm springs have been provided a canopy so that tourists and visitors can relax underneath. The Ikogosi warm spring, according to tourism experts, is one of eight of such warm springs discovered in the world. Adding to the natural beauty, there is a tree and a palm growing from the same source at the meeting point area of the warm and cold springs. Another attraction of the Ikogosi Warm Spring is that it is believed to be curative. Therapeutic powers have been reputed regarding rheumatism and guinea-worm.
Ekiti Government has built a warm water swimming pool for tourists and visitors to the tourist centres to take full advantage of the water’s beneficial qualities. To create comfort for visitors, a resort named Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort has been located very close to the warm and cold springs at Ikogosi by state government. The resort has 4 VIP chalets, 32 Federal Chalets, 8 VIP Quarters chalets, 4 Western chalets and 18 Macgee Camp chalets. All the chalets are fully air-conditioned and provided with satellite services. A multi-purpose Conference Centre, restaurant/bar and recreational facilities were also provided for tourists and visitors to the warm spring resort. The warm water swimming pool helps people with body pains such as rheumatism and back ache. People visit on a regular basis for the cure of their ailments. Public toilet facilities are also provided, and souvenir shops. A herbal farm is being built for the planting of herbs and other local medications.

IZON BIBI WORLDWIDE, IJAW NATION

THE PROUDLY IJAW PEOPLE

Varieties – Izon, Kalabari, Obolo, Ibani, Wakirike, Nkoroo, Nembe, Ogbian, Kabou, Buseni, Atala, Bille, Kula, Apoi, etc.

Ijaw languages

The Ijaw speak nine closely related Niger–Congo languages, all of which belong to the Ijoid branch of the Niger–Congo tree. The main division between the Ijo languages is that between Eastern Ijo and Western Ijo, the most important of the former group of languages being Izon, which is spoken by about ten million people.

In addition, the Ijaw practice a form of divination called Igbadai, in which recently deceased individuals are interrogated on the causes of their death.

Ijaw youth council call for details investigation of blockages of national Assembly

IJAW YOUTH COUNCIL (IYC) WORLDWIDE
PRESS RELEASE
August 8, 2018

BLOCKADE OF NATIONAL ASSEMBLY; IYC HAILS SACK OF DSS BOSS, CALLS FOR DETAILED INVESTIGATION, COMMENDS NASS MEMBERS

image

, CHARGES NEW DSS BOSS TO RELEASE DETAINED NIGER DELTA YOUTHS
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) worldwide has commended the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbanjo for sacking the former Director General of the Directorate of State Security Services (DSS), Mr. Lawal Duara for the illegal invasion and blockade of the national assembly. The Acting President deserved commendation for his prompt reaction which we believe will restore sanity in the activities of security agencies in Nigeria. The actions of Nigeria security agencies in recent time have attracted odium to Nigeria in the international community. However, the IYC further state that it is not enough for the federal government to sack the DSS boss, but an independent and thorough investigation should be carried into the incident to unravel all those that were involved the action and bring them to justice. This is the only way the security apparatus of state can continue to command the respect of Nigerians and the international community.
The IYC also note and commend the heroic role of Representative Boma Goodhead from Rivers State and younger sister to former President of the Ijaw Youth Council, Alhaji Asari Dokubo. Hon. Goodhead and other members of the national assembly who confronted the DSS officials who were on an illegal mission to the national assembly demonstrated courage which is needed to check a government inclined to dictatorship.  For those with vindictive instinct, we wish to warn them to stay clear of Hon. Goodhead Boma as the Ijaw nation is watching. It is our expectation that the sack of Mr. Daura would bring to a stop the use of security agencies as agents of terror against citizens.
In a related development, the Ijaw Youth Council has called on the new DSS boss Mr. Matthew Seiyefa to look into the cases of illegal arrest and detention of citizens by the DSS and release Nigerians especially Niger Delta youths who have been in the detention of the DSS without trial. It would be recalled that the DSS under Mr. Daura arrested and detained several Nigerians without trial for years despite court orders demanding for the release of arrested persons. The recent arraignment in court of Mr. Jones Abiri, a Yenagoa based journalist after about two years of detention is a typical example. Mr. Seiyefa must ensure as a matter of urgency that Nigerians are not held in the DSS detention facilities indefinitely without been taken to court.

Signed for the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) worldwide:

2,226 police graduate protests illegal promotion

*2,226 graduate policemen protest against promotion ‘wuruwuru’*

About 2,226 policemen yesterday protested against their botched promotions. The policemen, made up of inspectors and other ranks, accused the Police Service Commission (PSC), and the police council of failing to effect their promotions, three years after they had been screened.

In a statement by Sgt. Abdul Majeed Lukeman, they accused the police authorities of fraudulently promoting some policemen who offer them bribes. The statement said: “In 2015, the Nigeria police leaders at that time, in their wisdom saw a need to upgrade inspectors and other rank and file who possess higher educational qualifications.

“Based on that, they called for Aptitude Test (examination) and screening of officers with university degrees and Higher National Diploma (HND). They added that those with certificates were to be upgraded to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). They cited police wireless message (signal) CB: 7510/DTD/FGQ/ABJ/Vol.7/11, DTO 151800/06/2015 promotion general, dated 06/2015.

The protesters said: “The examination and the screening were done by the police authorities, in conjunction with the PSC in various state and zonal commands. They disclosed that after the examination and screening, 50 successful candidates were shortlisted from each state of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The exercise, which was done according to their states of origins and local council areas, included a supplementary list, which made the number 2,226 candidates, they added.

“Eventually, in December 2015, the police authority called for the final screening at the FHQ, Abuja by a signal No. CB: 7510/DTD FHQ/ABJ/VOL.7/66, dated December 5, 2015. “But to our utmost surprise, at the peak of the screening exercise at the FHQ, we were told to go back to our various commands/formations for further directives,” they said.

The aggrieved policemen also alleged that the Senate Committee on Police Affairs had said it was in custody of names of successful candidates who were to be upgraded to the rank of ASP, based on their educational qualifications.

The committee claimed that it obtained the names from the former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, and promised to ensure that there was no lopsidedness in the promotions. They lamented that while they were still waiting to be called, the police authority differed the laid down procedure of promotion into the rank of ASP.

This, they, added was a breach of Section 39, Part IV of the Police Act and Regulation, by calling for recruitment of civilian graduates as cadet ASP, without any recourse to those already screened. The policemen held that the action was also contrary to the Police Act, which said that recruitment could only be done, if suitable candidates were not found from within. They urged the relevant authorities to intervene to solve the problem

Niger Delta leaders, stakeholders decry slow pace of Ogoni cleanup
By Kingsley Jeremiah and Cornelius Essen, Abuja
06 August 2018 | 12:15 pm

• Political tension may frustrate project as internal displacements worsen

• Continued delay overstrecthing our patience, say Ijaw youths

• Project commences this month , FG insists
Tension is beginning to mount in the Niger Delta region over the slow pace of Ogoni cleanup, announced by the Federal Government over two years ago . There are also indications that the continuous delay in the planned cleanup of the oil -producing region may soon degenerate into hostilities against oil infrastructure , a situation that could worsen the country’ s economy.
Indeed, the concern for most stakeholders is that the current political tension and the preparations for the 2019 general elections could hamper the planned cleanup.
Although the Minister of State for the Environment, Ibrahim Usman Jibril, told The Guardian that the project would commence this month, individuals , groups in Niger Delta and environmentalists have argued that Federal Government ’ s pronouncement on March 2, 2016 for the commencement of the project still remains a mirage .
Those who argue in that regard are, President of Ijaw Youth Council ( IYC ) , Eric Omare, the Pan Niger Delta Forum ( PANDEF) , umbrella body of traditional rulers, leaders and stakeholders of the Niger Delta region, Mike Loyibo, President , Coalition of South – South Chambers of Commerce ( FOSSCCIMA) , Billy Harry, Chairman , Nigerian Environmental Society , Abuja Chapter , Efegbidiki Okobia and an environmentalist , Nnimmo Bassey. Omare said there were no indications that the Federal Government was still committed to cleaning up Ogoniland, insisting that its pronouncement was only a political gimmick.
According to him , government ’ s breach of its promise will make the people react negatively, especially by embarking on hostilities against oil facilities in the region. His words: “ There is nothing on ground to show that the Federal Government is committed to the cleanup. There is nothing whatsoever beyond media hypes and publications.
“ That has a far – reaching implication because we were thinking of using Ogoni to pressure the authorities to clear the pollution in the region . Government ’ s failure to the cleanup shows that they are not interested in the remediation of the polluted region. “ There is growing internal displacements in the Niger Delta. There are communities that are moving out because the water is destroyed, the land is destroyed and people cannot live in the communities anymore. There could be hostilities against oil facilities . ”
Since government made the promise , the country has increased oil production above 2. 25 million barrels per day ( bpd) from a mere 1. 4 million bpd, bringing the economy back on track after a major slump on the backdrop of the ceasefire and peace deal in the oil -producing region . Loyibo insisted that not only has the Ogoni cleanup remained a mirage , but that the 16- point agenda presented to President Muhammdu Buhari by leaders of the region, was not met except the establishment of a Maritime University in Okerenkoko , Delta State .
Urging the Federal Government to implement the United Nations Environment Progamme ( UNEP) report, which ordered the cleanup, the PANDEF leader said the excitement over government ’ s pledges to the region was eroding . He said : “ We were happy and excited and felt that the cleanup would address our problems because the environmental problem is not in Ogoni alone . But from the status of the project , there is nothing happening there . I call on the presidency not to play politics with the project . ”
Loyibo also urged the Niger Delta youths to engage democratic means rather than aggravate the environmental challenges with hostilities against oil infrastructure , adding that the current administration should be given the opportunity to fulfill the pledges it made to the region.
Speaking, Harry noted that one of the best ways the current administration would earn votes from the region was to complete the project , adding that although the project needed time , the current level of commitment has not indicated that the project was on track . He added that the continuous delay could pave way for criminally minded people to take advantage of the situation , stressing that agitators from the region must desist from attacking oil facilities .
While the project still remained elusive , stakeholders including former President of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People ( MOSOP ) , Ledum Mitee, criticised attempts to resume exploration activities in the region. He cautioned that resumption of oil production activities without a credible cleanup of the Ogoni environment would be tantamount to a profound insensitivity to the plight of the people.
On his part, Bassey expressed reservations over the current political crisis in the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC) , which he stressed , could pose a hindrance to execution of the Ogoni cleanup project . He was , however , optimistic that the project would continue as scheduled, stressing that structures on ground were solid and was a clear testimony of seriousness of purpose on the part of government .
He maintained that funds made available were domiciled with the Ogoni Clean Up Trust Fund , adding that the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project ( HYPREP ) has concluded bidding processes, which according to him , shows that the cleanup exercise was on course.
Also , Okobia expressed concerns over the slow pace of work at the site and credibility of the cleanup exercise, arguing that although the Federal Government has made funds available for the project , the international oil companies ( IOCs ) were yet to remit their counterpart funding, adding that this give rise to worries over the project .
“ We cannot afford to miss this important project at this stage and if government misses it, it would be too bad for the people of the Niger Delta region. Already , the exercise is taking too long , ” he added .
However, Jibril assured the Ogoni people that government would keep to its promise by embarking on full -scale cleanup of the area soon , because contractors would be mobilised to site on schedule . He also said the Board of Trustees ( BoT ) has submitted its budget for the cleanup exercise, adding that the Federal Government has the political will to fulfill the project .
A member of HYPREP ’ s Board of Trustees , Mike Emuh , said the seeming delay in the start of the cleanup of Ogoniland was as a result of its special nature , as well as other economic and technical challenges. Emuh , who is also the National Chairman of Host Communities of Nigeria Producing Oil and Gas ( HOSTCOM) , said the Ogoni cleanup project was unlike infrastructure projects where contractors quote and were mobilised to site . He also argued that the cleanup programme was presently at the demonstration stages and a good number of companies were already displaying their competencies on the sites .
